lets analyse a bit here, if you look at the first page

#3003B287 running on Gigabyte, EVGA boards with vcore ranging from 1.458v to 1.520v

    # 3003B396 running on EVGA, Gigabyte boards with vcore ranging from 1.376v to 1.435v

all with water cooling, of course different factors should be considered like ambient, board overclocking capabilities , type of water cooling parts.. etc

i am trying to gather from this thread and reading on other forums, so far i hear the 3003Bxxx is GOOD batch for the Gulftown

every now and then we read a thread about cpu or gpu waterblocks round up, or other stuff, i am waiting for some lab to come up with Gulftown batch roundup, but maybe due to the price and changes of batches this might be hard to do .. hope it will happen soon.

It might be my personal opinion but all the current Gulftown batches are crap for overclocking 24/7. They do not offer a decent clock speed increase over 920 D0. We need a new stepping, or something. So far it is very unimpressive for ambient cooling. Unless you really need 6 cores...

The chip in my sig has been stable since launch, 3003B396. From all the threads I've seen it's about average as far as vcore required. I've had it to 5ghz on water able to pass some benches, 1.6ish vcore.

I agree with zalbard certainly the 920 is the better buy if you don't have a specific need for the extra cores, the overclocks are around the same.

In fact I would say the 920 is a much better chip for 24/7 since you can pump vcore and if it dies early you're not out the 1k that a 980 costs. I have been temped to stick my 920 in and crank vcore and run it at its max and use the 980 as a backup.

    Picking up a #3003B396 tomorrow.

Tried to use qpi@slow-mode but I can't even boot into windows. If I set it to Auto, nothing is wrong.
Are there people who's also got problems with UD7 rev2?

Here are some results on water for batch tracking purposes.

    3DMark06 @ 4.61GHz

    3DMark06 @ 4.74GHz
(sorry for the s/s with dropped multi, I wasn't paying attention when I took it)

    3DMark06 @ 4.79GHz

    3DMark Vantage @ 4.68GHz

I'll do more tonight. Maybe some more 3D benching on water @ 4.84+GHz

Would you believe me if I tell you I didn't even bother to run RealTemp?
With such low voltages I didn't care about temp, even @4.8GHz.
I'll check next time and report back.

mine is a 3020a457 and don't see much about it... anyone know anything about this batch??? right off the top the temp varies about 12 degrees... cores seem uneven... they pull closer at load though.. within 8 degrees...

i first noticed when i threw it on the test bench under the air cooler... i said, meh wait till i get it under water... i probably seated it wrong... not the case... its under a swiftech xt.. tried to reseat 3x... still no better... most uneven core temps i have ever seen... will be clocking soon...

did i read somewhere in this thread, about 980x dying while overclocking with even simple voltage, would Intel RMA them and send you a new one if the discover its overclocked !! or its just a matter of luck ?

i am asking cause i got the Asus Rampage III extreme a week ago and getting the gulftown tomorrow

    Thanks guys

@algelreaper: Great chip you got there!

    Just a little update:

Quick SuperPI 1M run @ 5GHz before I went out last night.
Sorry for the picture showing one multi less, but it was 5GHz run, as can be seen by result (and it is validated of course).
BTW, look at CPU-Z voltage. I could overclock it to 5THz with such voltage. Just need a black matter deatomizer for cooling liquid nitrogen to -500°K.

Hm, looks like software voltage reading is a bit off.

That would be a million dollar question.
Intel's max specified voltage, before degradation steps in, in their opinion is 1.4V, but everybody is obviously using same voltages as for Bloomfield when doing extreme overclocking. That's including me. I used to OC under water with vCore up to 1.6V and that's only .05V over Intels specs for Bloomfield. Now doing the same with Gulftown and that is .2V over specs.
So, there is no real answer to your question. We can theorize all day, but it is really up to you individually and voltages you are confortable with.
I try to stay under 1.4V/1.4V vCore/VTT for everyday use.

I think that 40V will be ok lol

I was 1,6V+ on water and chip is ok (two weeks).
