    Update.
I put the Opteron 1354's and the dual 8356 in cases and moved to the garage for the summer. Used a wireless card given to me by artemm and bridged the dual 8356 thru one of the 1354's. Has worked out well and think they may stay there. A couple of empty cases ready for the next crunchers.

My daughter got me a box of PC stuff from a listing on Freecycle, a usable PSU, 2 new Phenom 2 factory heatsinks and a usuable case, a bunch of case fans, also some not usable MBs and CPUs and junk PSU. You might consider keeping an eye out for people giving PC stuff away, there can be treasues among the trash.

You do, of course, have permission in writing to install BOINC on these machines?

Borging, defined as installing a distributed computing client on a machine without the owner's expressed permission, has gotten more than one person fired from their job and can leave the person open to prosecution for stealing company resources. Xtreme Systems, or any other WCG team I know of, does NOT encourage this practice and in fact actively DIScourages it.

Lucky... All of my computers were installed with some type of Novell security softwares. There is no way to bypass anything.

Tomorrow I will try to ask for permission for the rigs to be installed with BOINC.

    I know all of this

I had BOINC going on my laptop (see last pic), the lab admin asked what it was, and I explained. He then said that it would be cool to see what the entire lab was capable of, since it sits mostly idle most of the time, and I told him I'd more than gladly set everything up with his permission. He OKed it, and now all 24 are up and running

He was very clear that if the students started reporting slowdowns, I'd have to back off CPU usage (currently, it's @ 100% even when they use them), but I asked about half a dozen people today, and they didn't even know that anything had been changed

I get permission for all rigs, including friends rigs, the ones I have going at work, and the ones here.

According to my PPD estimator, all of these are capable of in theory just a tad under 14k PPD, so I'm going to assume I'll get a more modest ~11-12k from them

If you're wondering, yes I'm a little paranoid about it. It happened a while back that some guy wrote a virus that borg'd a bunch or systems for his Folding@Home account. When it was found out he, and his team, were stripped of all the credit and he was banned from the project for life.

    Ooh

I totally understand, I wouldn't do anything like that that could get me in trouble, but I have direct permission from the lab admin (hell, he helped me set up BOINC), and he's the only one that had any influence over what happens w/ these systems

    Thanks

And it's just in time for the Supercomputer week, I'm gonna give them a few days with TPU (my normal team) then switch them over the 30th or the 31st so they're going full bore for XS by the time the event starts

    Holy sh*t
    Unbelievable farms you have there..
Yesterday I started crunching for GPUGrid and WCG.
My main rig is Q9550 E0 at 3,4ghz with gainward gtx460 1gb gsglh in sli and 4gigs of ram on a evga 780i board.
Currently I have a second computer on the build, htpc one.
At the moment I have Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H rev 1.1 mobo, gigabyte gt220 1gb ddr3 version and some 3gigs of ram.
need to find a suitable case for it, psu and probly gonna get athlon II x4 640..
Money is the thing holding this project back

Here's a pic for you of the main rig

    That's quite a nice start

Money is also what holds me back, hence why I only have one cruncher @ my house (i7). Everything else is farmed out

Hey I have a T60. Is yours a Core Duo or Core 2? I upgraded the CPU in mine to a C2D 2GHz, and a UXGA+ panel Oh, no zipties here

OK here is what I had running this week. pardon the cell phone pics.

My main PC, the X4 955 @ 3.6GHz. My ATI 4870 runs on F@H. Pardon the mess.

    The C2D e7400 box

My sossaman rig. Also has the GTX260 in it on F@H.

The Athlon X4 640. No case here.

And the rest - the two HPs are Athlon X2 4000+, the antec Sonata3 has the C2D e8500 in it, and then the "contraption" in cardboard on the right is my watercooled quad AMD 8347 rig

Also my parents' PC X2 4400+ but it hasn't changed since the last pic I took of it a long while ago. Not running over there just to get a pic of it
