Thats what I keep thinking Steve I don't like hassle of sending them back, but can't use them like this really. BTW nice scores lol

if you can send them back w/o taking too much of a hit you might want to do that.
i'm eyeing a set of c300s but not ready to give up on the acards jusy yet.

The intels I have seem to be fine.
Is anyone else having coruption issues with the Areca 1880 with latest firmware or have any ideas why I am having this problem.

It's prob a firmware issue with the f40 they seem to go to sleep on me sometimes they are fine then the next minute they fail to boot. i have turned off hibernate etc. I have an RMA in to Corsair, but I really think its firmware related and might be fixed sometime soon with the next release for the ssd's so don't wnat to go through hassle of sending them back trouble is I cant rely on the drives in this state.
I had similar problems using Hitachi 15ks and I'm running on a P6T Deluxe. When I flashed the P6T to the latest bios to accommodate a Gulftown , I didn't flash the onboard SAS controller which was recommended but since I had it disabled, I didn't bother. I flashed the P6t onboard SAS controller, don't ask my why I thought that would help, and all the problems I was having the the 1880 disappeared.

Just a thought - did you try DISABLING volume read ahead cache and/or disk read cache? I think these would not be needed for ACARDS. The sequential might hurt though as a result.
Alternately, try conservative Volume read ahead.
    P5E64_Evo/QX9650, 4x X25-E SSD - gimme speed..

Since (I believe) acards do not support ncq i should be able turn that off also.
So far the only thing i found that for sure needs to stay ON is write caching.
It might be that everything else just gets in the way.

If NCQ were not supported, you would not get higher results with QD32/64 read tests - you do.

I will double check, I'm pretty sure turning ncq on/off in the controller makes no diff in acard array performance.

    Good evening all,
I'm playing around with a GGBT EP45T/Q6600, trying to pull down a nice pcm05 score and having difficulty getting my xp start below 220.
Tried three times - 584, 509 and 368 are my xp start scores so far.
I think I could post a pretty decent score with the 1880/acards but I can't get over this one problem, any advice from the pcmark05 gurus?
I am doing the copy of about 3GB into the target partition but no luck - any other suggestions?

wow thats a hard one. man that is a high startup
multiple large file copies, simultaneously, would be my next bet.

um...you are enabling TCQ with the controller steve? that seems to be a big boost with these ol gen 1 vertex...

Mr Fear, sure I can do that for you some time but its not really that impressive, not really much faster than 4xR0.

Good morning CT yes, 3 simultanous copies of ~630-1024MB from usb into the acard array is what I am doing and no joy. What else?

    TCQ? you mean NCQ?

Hmm interesting I am on same board with the sas contoller as well maybe I ought to try this I have a i920, so no need to have flashed before although I think I am on the latest bios. Still it seems drive related, but over weekend I will try this also. It would be nice if it fixed it.

What ssd drives do you have, off the 8080 on the P6T?

Has anyone tested the new Samsung F4's with this controller ? I'm thinking if i should switch it with mine (would probably not making much sense and don't know if it will fit in case) to run a serious raid 5 or six with this nice and cheap samsungs.
Would a new LSI or 3Ware controller work better ?

    Ok - so 1880/12xAcard 9010 on a ggbt EP45T-USB3P/Q6600 oc'd to 4320 -

    pcmv - #1 for Q6600's, #7 for quad cores - http://hwbot.org/community/submissio...hz_21904_marks

    pcm05 - #6 for Q6600's - http://hwbot.org/community/submissio...hz_24832_marks

I had a tough time ocing the memory, I think I might try a different mobo next time.

Nope there is Native Command Queuing and then this newfangled Tagged Command Queuing that areca is using with the 18xx series. and it pays. They even say in the manual that it enables uber speed (not that exact wording) but damnit if they arent right

wow see your busting out the q6600! wow gotta love those ol beasts, i see you have a penchant for old hardware lately, and seems to suit you nicely. Good Job!

EDIT: if they gave points for PCMV you would be crushing

TCQ is older than NCQ. What Areca calls TCQ might not be the old TCQ though.
    Where is that setting?
