Didn't it take just a few months for ATI to respond with the HD2400? which was up to par with Nvidia's G80???
**EDIT** and when I say up to par I don't mean equal, but very close to.

the HD2400 was a lowend card that was put in millions of dells in school and home computers.

The 8800GTX lasted nearly 2 years.
    It's close to a 4850 in performance.

Correct, G 80 will always be fondly remembered as one of the greatest GPU chip ever made, alongside R300 & its derivative R350 (if you consider R300 & R350 as the same chip with only minor improvement perhaps this is the chip that can challenge G 80 performance leading longevity in history).

The 8800gtx when it was released in 2006 was roughly 4x faster than any single GPU ATi card on the market, and most reviews went with comparing ATi's X1950 XTX in crossfire to a single 8800gtx in an attempt to make ATi look like less of a joke.

In the 3 reviews I just glanced over from 2006, none of them actually compared 2x 8800gtx in SLI with the crossfire x1950 XTX cards in an apples to apples comparison when the card was definitely capable of 2x SLI and even 3x SLI.

I guess the reviewers were perhaps experiencing some bias after the previous 6 months of parading around with their favorite ATi cards, but were stopped mid stride by big green. hehe. I guess things never change.

Stop with your terrible logic. We compare dual slot, single PCIE cards to dual slot, single PCIE cards.

I really am confused by this post.

What are you trying to say, because I remember a 1950xt being a dual slot card.

Its a bit confusing the point your trying to make.

It really was kind of a weird comparison(at least if they are the only two setup in the comparison) to compare a single card to two cards combined.

Simple, one guy defines dominance as a single gpu card pwning a dual gpu setup/card. Another guy defines dominance by being on top as long as it uses 1 pci-e slot.

Tbh, I don't really get what Andrew_LB is replying to anyway. kuroikenshi merely said 5970 is in a league of its own.

EDIT: Personally, I'll just shut my mouth. No point getting bothered with this . It's just messing with my mind.

He's echoing the mantra of nvidia fans who love to say the 5970 cannot be compared to single GPU cards even though you can purchase it and stick it into your PCIE slot.

Back then the 8800GTX / Ultra was the best card to get, period.

Half of it is fanboy nonsense, the rest is mostly Crossfire/HTPC specific. Individual game issues seem to get knocked out pretty quick. Not perfect, but neither are Nvidia drivers.

I still want a confirmation on all of this "68xx series is the new midrange" crap.

    Core i7 920 D0 B-batch (4.1) (Kinda Stable?) | DFI X58 T3eH8 (Fed up with its' issues, may get a new board soon) | Patriot 1600 (9-9-9-24) (for now) | XFX HD 4890 (971/1065) (for now) |

You'd have a point if he was making claims about Ati being 100% perfect and all reports of problems were dirty lies, but that isn't what he said. The people who spam "OMG Ati drivers suck LOL" in every thread is who he was referring to.

lets see...finicky config for multi-monitor/resolution and driver settings that don't like to stay are two of the main "fun times" I had when setting up a multi monitor config at my church. two cards (non crossfire) driving two monitors, 1 projector and two floor TVs.
Setup is One monitor is dedicated, second monitor displays same as TVs and projector, TVs connected using svid- I'd love to be able to run the TVs at 1024*768 *max they support* and the projector and second monitor at 1280*1024, but I can't
lower performance in folding applications (may have changed, havn't really looked since when I was looking for my GTX 260)
and lets also not forget driver optimizations for games/TWIMTBP program-random crashes in games with new drivers; etc
let me also be clear- I have issues with nvidia drivers too, but for the uses I have...nvidia has been a better option for me

His two years of having "no issues with amd" sounds like they have some pretty perfect drivers to me and is implying that maybe the rest of the world isn't as adept as he since they are complaining about their problems.

Throw out the change logs guys, everything has been great for two years, there are no driver bugs to fix...
