Retail Q9650 Overclocking Thread

Question: If keep all timing and FSB settings the same and I only adjusted the voltage settings, the GFLOPS change. I thought it was the mobo setting its own internal timings so I did tested it by retstarting and doing a "cold boot." I get the same number again. It is only when i change the voltages, the numbers change. Is this because the mch has its own timings that is adjusted automatically? The residual number remains the same, however.

well depends i had the same situations when wasnt stable...but also some versions of linx did that

Well, there is "tiny" difference between running super pi 1MB and 20 LinX loops with 3GB+ memory allocated + 8hr prime95 x64 blend @ priority 10 + a couple of days crunching Rosetta@home for instance.

Recently, I bought ga-ep45-ud3p again to give it a chance with my q9650 e0, because last time, 450fsb with the same board but with q9550 c1 was impossible. The result is completely different now:

Maybe not the winner but definitely one of the highest air clocks. This is the highest I got mine on air using a S1283/FM122 fan, and if I remember correctly I believe Jor had a run closer to 5ghz with cold air.

He reran it later at 4.5Ghz ~ 1.35V after he ran did couple LN2 benchies with it.

I was trying to be sarcastic

regardless I think it is funny that this cpu can pass a full week of p95 but can't manage 20 passes of linx

either way it has been working great with no problems in any games.

with the above settings it reboots before one loop is done. With different refs I have gotten 11 passes complete before a reboot.

What were the core temperatures and did the fans stop for a few seconds when the system restarted?

yup and then I need to turn off power to the psu or else I get a reboot loop similar to what you would get if you had a failed oc.

Give it a try with LLC Disabled but with higher vcore to compensate the vdrop.

I just got a Q9650 (batch# L017B688) and have it running at 4 Ghz with 1.3 Vcore.
Temps are 52/44/46/47 when folding with SMP on water.

Could I push this to 4.5??

Temps look good but your going to have to crank up the volt's to get it to 4.5
might as well try until you top out in temps.
