I'm sorry if I missed it/them, but has anyone gotten a 1GHz or more clock on the GPU? I hear the MSI Hawk is supposed to be able to do that on air, and the EVGA FTW seems like a contender, too.
Signatures make my posts look huge... but I'm not humble enough to completely remove my signature, so I kept this note explaining it.

1ghz is surely possible in water, even more like 1050 1060, theres pics on this topic proving the stability.

in LN2 seems that the wall is around 1.2ghz, but i aint sure.

in air, i think even with those superpower-cards like HAWK 1ghz is kinda hard to reach and a bit unsafe.. i don't know, it may be possible with a feel of them but is not guaranteed at all..

i would say that, over 80% of all GTX460s can get stable at @950 with air, but it's just a theory (my theory). Viewing from this point, 950 is not to far from 1ghz so..

Do not agree w/ this at all. Not sure what you call stable, but 950 furmark stable on air ? Hell 950 is pushing the limits of what most cards will do under water.

+1, weird how people define "stable"...

For me, it's an hour of furmark, a day of benching, and a week of gaming

How come, are you having the studdering issues? I've examined my old bios with the new one and I can see what they did defferent.

Crazy- hehe it's just a thought but when I get my rig backup I will need you to hook me up with a bios

Now as far as stable , everyone has their own idea of stable but , I perfer to use program that hammer an push my cards .. When I bench with vantage I do it 3 times in a row , if I see the smallest artifact or tear I will consider it NOT stable . I fold at home as well considerig my comp is OCed 24/7 and on 24/7 .. I will also use a few other program to really heatup my cards and let them get hammered for a good hour min while maintaining effecient temps .

it depends on WHY you are stressing it, and what's your objective..

i like to call stable when i can play for hours like 4~5~6 without any problems or artifacts.. that's what i call stable, i really dont give a shi* about furmark/occt gpu/kombustor/etc..

sometimes i use the stress-programs but for 5 mins at top just to check the temps quickly, not an hour or 1 day... only because it's not stable on them doesn't mean that isn't stable on games too. you guys have to agree with me that any kinda of game is definitely less "heavy" than these stress programs.. so why not use a game that is the closest of 100% gpubound to test the overclock? i know this older way, takes more time, surely u will get more bsods, so what? At least you won't be hurting your vga.

some guys "play" furmark .. they have the furmark icon ready on their desktop ..im not saying you or you do it, but surely some do. the super stress abuses the card too much (it was made to do it), gpu and all components do suffer a lot when the stress is rolling mainly without pauses, it's like you contributing to kill your own vga minute by minute..

again, and just to let clear, that's MY point of view.

They tweeked the performance profiles, or clock domains if you will.
There are four levels labled 3(2d) 7(?) 12(3d idle), and 15(3d max).

On the old bios 12(3d idle) was missing (or all clocks set to 0), so Im guessing the when the driver tried to put the card in 3d idle, it actually caused an error, then it would jump back to 15(3d max)?

I may have just gotten lucky....some chips OC better then others. I wonder if there is any difference in overclockability between the 1gb and 768mb versions?

edit: Think my core is as high as it will go (940 gave me a openGL crash on kombustor). I don't think the memory is maxed out yet though.

I think the 768 version does OC better.. What did you use for stability at that OC if you dont mind me asking?

Vantage, no errors or artifacts. Did you bump your memory OC down some when trying for 930 on the core? I thought my core was the problem when it was actually the memory clock. So I bumped down the memory some and was able to get it stable at 930. I also made a custom fan setting through Afterburner so the fan ramps up faster then the stock, not sure if that made a difference or not.

Nah i never tried bumping the mem down but i do know the 768 oces a bit better... So when you ran vantage tho, you ran it on performance setting and while it was runnig you didnt see any lights break thru at the top of your screen? no green or red or yellow pixels come thr u?

Yes, I run the performance setting, no artifacts or lights breaking though at the top of the screen. I just tried 940 and got a driver crash during Vantage. But 930 runs no problem.

edit: I've tried everything I can to try to get it to artifact or crash at 930 but its rock stable during vantage, furmark/kombustor and games.

Are those square size sinks? I have some sinks that look exactly like those from back in the 7900GT silver paint volt mod days. Except mine are square and your looks like rectangle (or is that just the angle the photo was taken?). What did you attach them with? I just found my sinks and they still have the original white sticky glue sorta stuff on them.

I am very interested in using the sinks since they are sitting in my supplies box gathering dust and I wanna put them to good use.

Right, I'm pretty sure I have the same ones as they were popular years ago to also cool the VRMs. I wanted to just confirm they are square shaped like mine are (the angle of the photo makes them look rectangular) and what he attached to them the VRMs with (mine have a white sticky bottom). I bought them back in teh 7900GT volt mod days on this forum, so long ago LOL>
