IMHO, sweetspot strategy isn't just about making the smallest, affordable chip possible, but rather how to make it as efficient as possible. Now, as long a dual chip card can still be made out of a single highend chip for a flagship, enthusiast HALO part while not breaking PCIE spec in the process, and the single highend chip actually becomes a king of the hill chip in the market (something that Cayman seems to be), i don't think ATi strategy is a flawed one. Last round, their Evergreen was (and still is) quite good but TSMC's 40 nm supply mess disrupted their short term strategy, forcing them to forgo any attempt of price war & aggressive marketshare grabbing and instead focusing on maximising profit. Ofcourse, TSMC problematic 40 nm process didn't help much either, it forced ATi to somehow bloat the chip design so the yield won't be in the toilet.

Now, as TSMC 40 nm process is maturing, and fact that 32 nm process isn't available, something needed to be done over Evergreen mArch that's getting long in the tooth. The added 40 nm wafer capacity is also creating an opportunity for ATi, that the rather neglected segment in the last round (200 US$) can & MUST be taken care of this time. ATi isn't in the subordinant position like R600 days of yesterday, they actually a market leader in DX 11 universe. Sweetspot strategy has to be applied flexibly to factor this current condition, you already control the market with Evergreen family launched much earlier than competition, now it's time to DOMINATE, and i think Northern Island family is the right answer for that call.

^^ Very interesting 5770 has 10 SIMD's and 800 shaders but number of ROP's is double for both, number of texture units remain the same.

Not sure it's fake, but the center missing blob sounds like a bad p-shop

Anyways, interesting stuff.... the ROPS suggests that they are indeed 256-bit

Well fake or not, I see nothing that would be suprise me there or seem very unlikely.

you can still see a tiny line from the hidden water mark between "Based on"
so this dosnt make it look like a 2+2 but still 1+4 shader grouping?

Mix and match Turks and Barts info...
And yes, these specs would infer than Barts is 5d.

Edit- Looks like they removed the "ATI" part in the middle.

Never seen a slide with codenames on it with specs. Also never seen any slide with SIMDs on it.

That spec chart is a lame fake....

AMD would never waste time positioning against both a GTX460 768Mb and 1gb part. The 768Mb part was dead on arrival as far as I'm concerned. Anyone who is in the know would pony up the extra $20 for the much improved performance of the 1gb.

This being said, if Barts XT isnt as least as good as a 5870, I will be disapoint son.

AMD's Graphics Division Director of the Strategic Approach:" Interesting "
AMD's Graphics Product Group, which manages the Strategic Initiatives Department is subject to the company's graphics cards is one of the most authoritative figure in David Hoff'a, before the news of our document, we asked above. Document for the "interesting" interpretation of the David Hoff, but Cypress Dual Engine Architecture Not to Tell something about the subject, such as a definition (marketing unit from time to time able to use different terminology) said that people did not feel before.

    AMD Radeon HD 6800 Described

Italian website Hardware Upgrade have managed to spend some time with an engineering sample of Cayman. Unfortunately, they have decided not to post pictures, but have instead given a description of the part. It is not mentioned whether the card is Cayman Pro or Cayman XT, but it is likely to be the latter. From the outside, the Cayman / HD 6800 card features a reference design very similar to the Radeon HD 5870, except there are no openings at the front, which had led to many people likening the HD 5870 to "Batmobile". However, since this is an engineering sample, the final reference design can change.

On the back of the PCB are 8 contact points for GDDR5 memory, confirming a 256-bit memory interface. Interestingly, the HD 6800 sample features 6-pin + 8-pin power connectors, which is the maximum PCI-e spec, and more than the 6+6-pin config of the HD 5800 series. This indicates that TDP is likely in the 225W to 250W range. However, once again, this could change for the final design. The rear panel includes five outputs - 2 x DVI, one HDMI and 2 x mini-Displayport.

Sadly, Hardware Upgrade have no further confirmation of other details such as clocks, architectural changes, etc. They do confirm that the sample is ready and release is imminent. The rumour mill suggests Caymen or HD 6800 will release in November

so alot of info coming out keeps pushing for similar performance per watt, so i guess we can all hope they shaved off 20-30% of the die space needed and prices will drop

Let's just say there are people out there that want it to only be as fast as GTX460...

There seems to be a lot of confusion about the naming scheme: 68xx is Barts or Cayman? Otoh Barts seems to be an unusual cross between Cypress and Juniper. They better be consistently faster than the current GF104 because I'm pretty sure nvidia hasn't released the full Gf104 yet.

Could it be that people are confused with a more than probably mobility HD6800 Barts based?
