Intel to show off Sandy Bridge at IDF next week, AMD counters with Zacate demo nearby

"Now this is what you call a juicy standoff. Intel has announced that Paul Otellini will grace the stage at IDF next week with a demo of his company's next-gen CPU/GPU chip, codenamed Sandy Bridge, and not to be outdone, AMD has immediately retorted with plans to put its own Zacate competitor up on display -- at the same time,"

Yay a faceoff well sort off, Zacate is not a true competitor to sandy bridge cpu wise but may give it a run for the money gpu wise. Whatever be the case love such face off's just hope that llano shows up as a surprise guest that will be great.

IMO they should scale Zacate up and/or scale BD down to cover the entire range and forget about Llano.

I agree but they said that the gpu in llano is so complex that is the reason why they wanted to work with a familiar cpu so as not to screw things up.

If AMD was bigger with better resources we might have gotten something better than llano with stars

umm in terms of GPU performance: Intel is expected to face-plant again and AMD expected to demonstrate another well designed GPU offering.

Now on the CPU end, now that is where it is going to be interesting.
Fast computers breed slow, lazy programmers
The price of reliability is the pursuit of the utmost simplicity. It is a price which the very rich find most hard to pay.

We already know what GPU performance will be on SB, just look up the anand SB preview.

It will be better then the 80SP part, but for sure considerable worse then the 400sp part.

We have aproximation what 80SP will deliver, but we dont know the full story. Clocks and is there NI improvements in bobcat.

I seriously doubt there is anything from NI in Bobcat. But ,on the other hand, there are other improvements AMD may have done ,so we should wait for some games running on Ontario and see how it fares against SB .

    .

How will it be interesting both AMD APU CPU's "Zacate and llano" will be crushed beneath the weight of the sandy bridge quads.

preliminary testing shows SB graphics delivering a 100% performance boost over previous intel graphics solutions. that might not blow amd out of the water, but it is certianly not a face-pant. at this point, i hope amd doesn't try to compete with SB directly. it's my hope that they appeal to the average consumer with better overall value.

though it is funny to watch amd challenge intel to a public roshambo.

... and it's the public challenge that seems somewhat uncharacteristic for them, especially at that level. I don't expect them to faceplant Intel, but they might just surprise us as well.

i hope they do! though i'm not going to hold my breath... i'm just worried about all this fanfare, it seems like tech companies only start blowing thier horn about a product when i sucks. or when apple makes it. look at the P4, phenomI, fermi, hd2000.... lot's of pre-release fanfare, then nothing. now take a look at conroe, g80, athelonI, and hd4000; they simply released the product and it stood out in the market place. i'm not seeing that kind of confidence here.
