I had a Maximus formula x38 version of this board(up converted with a bios flash to rampage).
Any ways i notice during testing that with this board if you use the 3 pin fan connectors on the motherboard to power/control your fans it puts a greater strain on my 5V, and 12v rails. If i plugged them in via a molex off the PSU the voltage drop was far less, and the fans preformed better.
Yes i did set all the fans to 100% in the bios when they where plugged into the board, but they just spun faster when connected directly to the PSU.

The problem i had was just a bad fan, i'll try removing the fans i have on the board and change them to molex though its a good tip.

It was already enabled, so this doesn't work alsobut i got lucky and found an original sound card on ebay and seller will give it to me for free
because the winning bidder didnt pay him finally and he just wants to get rid of it
Smth last.. My mobo came with 0902 bios. Is it worth upgrading to 1001 (official) or the modded mentioned? I want to push my Q9550 to 4Ghhz. Memory is Corsair Dominator 1066 2x2Gb
You will be lucky if you get 4Ghz on this stupid board, i have been trying for the past few days. I completely agree with Alien Gray, this boards is solid, its just has a crappy bios for 45nm quads...
Btw i vote for 001 or 1002b bios, as i have seen a fairly good increase in memory bandwidth.

Wow! I'm glad to see this thread hasn't died at all
I haven't had any problems with my setup until recently so I guess that's the reason why I haven't really checked out this thread in a while xD
My system (everything in my sig is 100% current) had been running 100% rock solid for a very long time now, but recently I decided I wanted to try something new. I downloaded the Mafia II demo and was saddened at the pitiful FPS (17fps avg.) with PhysX set to high. Having a 5970 I knew my PhysX performance wouldn't be great because 17fps was plain pitiful. So I decided to try and run a hybrid PhysX setup with an old 8800 Ultra I had laying aroundI got everything all setup, but ran into a small problem very early on. As soon as I stuck the 8800 Ultra into the 2nd PCI-E x16 slot my motherboard would automatically default to making the 8800 Ultra my primary display. This was a big problem obviously, as I wanted the 5970 to be the primary display, and the 8800 Ultra to be used specifically for PhysX. Anyway, I checked out the ASUS support page and checked out the latest BIOS, and saw that one of the updates (0701 to exact) addressed this kind of problem, albeit with 4870X2's. So I decided to flash to the latest one (1001) and viola, that problem was fixed! Another issue came up shortly after updating my BIOS, however. I tried to simply load my OC profile after I fully reset the CMOS, and the machine wouldn't POST. Okay, no problem, I manually went in and set everything without loading the profile and it POST'ed just fine, and proceeded to boot into Windows. This is when my current problem started
My system is no longer stable at all. I got the hybrid PhysX all setup and Mafia II (as well as other games) would crash instantly. Thinking it was a problem with the 8800 Ultra of the hybrid PhysX, I decided to take the card out and go back to only running the 5970. Still, my games would crash. It got worse because I would also experience random BSOD's when booting into Windows, or while surfing the web. I thought maybe this new BIOS didn't like my overclocking settings, so I went to 100% stock settings, and I no longer crash randomly booting Windows or while in Windows, but my games still lockup less than 10 seconds after playing.
So obviously it's a bizarre issue. My question is this: does anyone have any negative experience with ASUS's bios release 1001 and overclocking? I haven't actually tried reverting to my previous bios (very old 0410), but I might if it will restore stability again.
Also, has anyone been able to get hybrid PhysX to work on this board? In hindsight I don't think the problems I was having are directly related to trying to run hybrid PhysX, I think they may have been BIOS related actually. But I was still curious if anyone has setup hybrid PhysX on this motherboard and if they have pros and cons
Thanks!
So I think I may have figured out what was causing my problems.
Some overclocking options work a little bit different going from 0410 to 1001. I compared all of my settings that were 100% stable under 0410, but weren't stable under 1001 and found something very interesting in regards to the AI Transaction Booster. I believe this is related to the common performance value, which was previously set to 10 when set to "auto". Under 1001 this value was now set to 7, which can very easily cause stability problems, especially for me since my settings have to be a certain way in order to run my CPU at that speed, AND 8GB of RAM@1066MHz.
So far after manually going in there and changing that to 10 I've been running stable since. I'm going to try and test some more just to be sure but I think I may have found the culprit to my stability issues
Now to get Hybrid PhysX working.
Recently papatsonis asked me some questions about overclocking RF and I decided to share my experience. I have to tell you that after certain fsb speed (it depens from the cpu wall) the board is stable only the first time when you set the new settings but if you restart it or shut it down you lose stability. In my case every fsb speed after 490 can be stable only at the first boot after new bios configuration. At the next boot the OS won't start at all or will fail(freeze) prime95 blend.

It was working yesterday. Took out my CPU cleaned it put it back in again to see if the connection was not good, same thing. Removed my rams, same thing, removed gfx card samething. I really don't know what to do. HELP ME PLS!!

Quess what? My computer turned on just now when i came back from watching The Expendables and i have my CPU @ 4.23GHz now and my ram at 1130MHz. Now my next problem is both my ethernet ports are not working, they are not even detectable by windows and they do not show up in the Device Manager. They might have been fried in the lighting storm.

Going to buy a wireless card tomorrow as this is not the first time one of my ethernet port has died. I don't like wire less, but this has happened to many times.

Ummm that's odd. I'd be more inclined to think that there's some weird issue going on with your card as opposed to BOTH of your NIC cards dying at the exact same time.
Play it smart and try fully clearing the CMOS and going back to stock speeds to see if your get your NIC cards working again.
I've ran into issues in the past where it's seemed like hardware as died but a simple reset has fixed everything
Good luck!
Both my NIC ports didnt die at the same time. One died last year due to thunder strike and now the other one has died. I did clear CMOS a few times and nothing so i m sure they are dead. I still want to upgrade to i7 though.

After much faithful service, my LCD poster decided to get stuck at random states for no apparent reason (various boot INIT stages or the clock for example), effectively rendering it useless.
