@shoota: Do you have a UPS with AVR [automatic voltage regulation]? Highly recommend it. The one I have is a Cyber Power [rebadged APC] that I bought for about $120 a few years ago. Its on it's second battery, but its paid for itself over and over.

I don't. Does that help longevity or something?

It would help if your mains voltage is fluctuating heavily.

It wouldn't surprise me if it was. Florida is notorious for unstable power and lightning storms

Jacka is right. It'll control the spikes as well as the brown outs [under power]. Its a small price to pay in comparison to the bucks we have into our rigs. The battery doesnt last long in a power outage, but thats not its purpose for me. Just control the voltage!

This one is super cheap! But mine looks just like this. I think they are all rebranded APC units.

Maybe I should have my stuff on UPSes, but I don't. Well, my main PC, the router, switch, those are all on UPSes, but the crunchers are not. Not lost any hardware yet due to power issues, even when I was running crap PSUs in a couple of them Guess I'm lucky

Could anybody with a Coolermaster Hyper TX3 measure this distance for me?

    I know this isn't a TX3 but I had the image already. :p

I think your ruler is broken.

From photographs of the TX3 I calculated it to be ~82mm. That's coinsidentily the distance between the center of the two sockets closest to each other. I don't suppose anybody would be willing to try fitting their TX3s with the fins interleaved? I.e. with the heat pipes almost touching each other.

oh woops, hold on.. 71- 72mm

btw why are you asking because i have four of these on our board and none of them touch. they would if you orientated them in a certain direction but with all of them blowing air away from the power connectors they all fit with no touching

Well I think it is possible to arrange them in this fashion.

When (if) I put these on a shelf in a rack I'd want the air to be blowing in the same direction for each heat sink.

    Sorry for awful picture.

    Aha, thank you.

All of the pictures I've seen have had to two on the right hand side rotated 90 degrees.

I got a little bored so I took a picture of my shelves.

EDIT: I just worked out roughly how much money I've spent on the stuff on these shelves. I was a little shocked until I realised the value of the research that they help towards.

Not yet, I will order them soon.

To prevent the need for K8 retention plates a friend of mine has been collecting some offcuts of 2mm stainless steel from where he works and will punch them out into some mounting brackets for me when I send him the drawings.

I'm going to order a massive tube of Arctic Silver Ceramique from ebay soon, too.

Well the cheapest I can get them here is £2 each (~$3) so it would be around $24 plus shipping. Add on the fact that they come from China and will probably take weeks to arrive, and the nice shiny brackets in exchange for a beer starts to seem like a better option. :P
