    [KitGuru] ATi logo finally gone?

    R.I.P. ATi

There’s a background buzz in the industry right now that says the ATI brand might not make it past Christmas. For almost 25 years, the graphic card buying public has put ATI on its shortlist. KitGuru wonders, could this be the end?

It's already difficult enough to talk about ATI GPU's when they're, really, AMD GPU's now. It makes it sound like they're 2 difference companies, even though they've been the same company for some 4 years now.

This change is long overdue, and I for one welcome it.

Hey guys, this is actually true.

It's funny seeing you guys act like it's not going to happen. The card PCB's already have "AMD" silkscreened on them and have for a long while.

Why KitGuru can't find a stupid picture to back it up like the one I'm showing below just makes them KitGuru. Doesn't mean they are always wrong.

It's easy to start a stupid rumor-mill hardware "news" site nowadays.
Just look at how easily many "fools" fall for stupid things ( this one, the +200W 512SP Fermi @ expreview, charlie's sentimental rants, etc ).

People would even listen to people running the site bullnews.com

It's not like it's going to be (much) different. AMD's owned ATI for a few years now. The change will be cosmetic.

    Exactly.

It's just hilarious to see some people in this thread act like it's either

    a. The end of the world.

    b. KitGuru telling and people making fools of themselves calling KitGuru out on this when it's actually true.

Logo change is not a big deal, but I will miss the old logo. A lot of nostalgia associated with it.

I'm always reminded of my X1900XT.

For my part I know nothing with any certainty, but the sight of the stars makes me dream.

The 9800PRO is the card to remember.
The X1900XT was good, but not as good as the 9800 Pro was back in its own time

    I had a Radeon 7000 a long time ago...

Anyways, company names change over time. Big deal--so long as AMD doesn't fire all formerly ATI employees, nothing will change. Using the ATI logo for the past few years has been for the purpose of marketing and, now, that difference has lessened.

Yup, I remember when the 9700 Pro's came out and nvidia's response was the awful FX series. I also remember being able to softmod the 9500's so they ran like 9700's. The early AIW cards were great as well.

i havnt seen anything in green for a long time, i would almost want a green MB or card to be retro.

i had liked that amd kept the ati name, it made it easy to keep the gamer and server parts separate and it helps to sell the IGP as a real part since ati makes graphics parts unlike intel, as when people see an amd chipset they think of intel graphics from what ive seen but when u tell them it has an ati 4200 then they think of a real card, while thats a little deceptive the 4200 is like a slow real card.

Hey, at least the 4200 can run Call of Duty with playable FPS. Good luck doing that on an intel

Seems like it will be perfectly doable on Sandy Bridge IGPs.

Interesting. But still, talking current offerings, plus let's not derail the thread too much in that direction.....

I seem to recall a year ago? Maybe more there was talk of the ATI logo/brand disappearing, but it didn't. So, until I actually see it, I'm going to remain a little skeptical.

o god lets not start the debates between brands

i think the ATI name stayed so long due to the color, green vs green would be confusing. i hope amd takes over red for good.
