yes it is... and by the looks of it.. imo the china we are seeing today is not the same as it was before...

and I mean that in the most positive way.

I believe they're already better than the other factories.
yep and that is what sums it all up.... if they cannot make it economically viable to operate in china then why bother with improving the working conditions and environment. And yes this is china we are talking about, but if you have been keeping up with recent news about china economy, you would know the average worker in china today is going to be much better off in the near future if things go as planned according to the direction the economy is headed.

nope just eastern countries like china... western countries in Asia are thriving, like India, but I wouldnt say the anything is permanent. Give it time and costs of manufacturering and price of motherboards etc will increase steadily but at a rate acceptable to the consumer.

The same number of hours would be worked, just spread out over a few more people? I know there would be some extra incurred costs from that, but probably nothing compared to what a company in say, North America would face (i.e. EI, benefits, etc).
good point... in the west companies dont want to hire 2 people to do the job instead of one cause it ends up costing them more, cause of social security, insurances, taxes etc... but in china? shouldnt it cost them about the same to hire 2 people to work 8 hours each instead of 1 that works 16 hours? and productivity would def go up...

maybe it has to do with training and supervising additional employees which costs more money? but it cant be that much...

ill ask around and see if anybody here knows, and will let you know

Working half the hours, would lead to a lower salary. Obviously it's insignificant to the people who were pressured enough to commit suicide but what about the rest? Isn't their salary low to begin with?

Not everyone can work those shifts, hence huge turnover rate. Plus on occasion some do accidently, lope their hands off. Mind you it's generally around two to three in the morning when accidents occur. We do have an Overseer, who keeps an eye on us and how much we produce during our shifts. Fortunately the bastard is quite sick, not feeling so good.........hence we can work in peace.

I keep praying my hands, stay intact.......

I get paid $1200AUS per fortnight. But it's the only job in town close to where I live.

Because of the GFC even here in Australia, all companies are starting to increase working hours and knock down wages. Hence there are now more accidents occurring. I don't know, where are the boffins to collect data to start co-relating this type of work injuries????

ALSO, if you are stupid to complain to the management, about having problems at work, you will ultimately be sacked. Hence that would be the cure to your work complaint. Every company loves to see someone having difficulties, because there may be an opening soon......for someone else, to fill your position.

But then again, I suspect it's much worse in Asia.

The problem is... Foxconn's job is probably the best place to work in the area.
They make much more now than they would farming.

It's not much better here in Central Europe, Foxconn has big factory here with many East-Asia workers and working conditions aren't much better there…there was something about it few months back in TW news.

I'm guessing the Foxconn plants give out especially harsh working conditions, you don't see other mass suicide cases in other plants. Thank you globalization... :Shakes:
I recall hearing somewhere that foxconn's plan has a lower suicide rate than the US...

Throwing more money at them doesn't improve the working conditions at all.

At lease there will be something to work for. After all, those people are seeking a job that pays better than farming, they are just trying to keep the three meals on the table for their family.
