XFX HD4890 XXX : Broken Fan

I have 2 XFX HD 4890 XXX in CFX. A few days ago, one of the cards started having some fan issues. The fan is making a horrid noise and I will let this video explain. That is my rig and the sound is lovely. I contacted XFX support and they replied very fast. I was told to do the usual :

    1. Check if the fan is blocked somehow
    2. Check the card in a different system, etc.
    3...
    4..
    5..

I did all that and I did not see a change. In addition to asking for help, I asked the XFX guys to send me a fan because this issue has a simple fix. I was told on the spot that XFX has no parts for my card and that they cannot send me a fan or a cooling assembly. I asked, what should I do then because if I send the card to them, I will not have it for a month. They told me to treat with the seller because XFX Europe works differently than XFX US.

So I call the seller, alternate.de, and explain the situation. The guy from the RMA department was shocked. How will alternate, an intermediary, fix the card if XFX has no components? Moreover, alternate will send the card to XFX but without components it will not get fixed. So, this is the way my RMA process will go, if I send my card in :

    1. 48 hours to ship my card to alternate
    2. 72 hours or more for XFX to get my card
    3. 2-3 weeks for alternate to get a card back.
    4. 48 hours to get a HD4890 card back.

Instead of going through all this hassle and hoping that XFX will honour the warranty, I would like XFX to ship me a FAN. This won't take long and I can mount it myself.

Why not just save the hassle and replace with a 3rd party cooler such as Arctic Cooling's dual/triple fan coolers - probably quieter and lower temps ......

I am thinking of that and I will do it for both cards. The UD3R does not allow wide coolers .

If you have limited space you could try these: http://www.quietpc.com/gb-en-gbp/pro...ti-vga/musashi

or this would be good time to go to watercooling

Look for a dead card on ebay for less than 10 dollars and replace the fan.
