Dave I bike somewhere around 30km/day if you want to come up with some kind of bike driven generator I'll sit my ass on it and peddle for a cure![]()

You know I was kidding, right? The wife is actually ok with it now. I was finally able to give her a succinct explanation of DC/WCG, and she responded with "...finally there's a good use for all that crap you buy" I was so taken aback, I started talking to her about XS, BOINCStats, dual/quad socket MBs - her eyes glazed over and she quickly left the room.
True that. We've both lost close family to cancer and friends to AIDS and -since this time of year the electric bill is through the roof anyways - the extra ~500W from crunching is a drop in the bucket. Certainly not trivial, but not a problem for us. Small price to pay.
Solar, huh? We've got plenty of that around here. Ever think of sharing some of that knowledge with an XS forum dedicated to the subject?
1) Still give her that hug from me. She's a "keeper"
2) Solar: Still very expensive to do a complete system that will cover say 3000 KWH/Month usage BUT I'm beginning to think the way to approach this is not to see a $80,000.00 cost for a full system BUT maybe to drop acouple grand for a small one and then add in as money allows.
Benefit of that approach is your getting some benefit now, and the $$ saved can be tucked away to buy more panels every now and then..
Sort of nibble away at the elec cost inch by inch if that makes any sense.
IE:Let the first say 4-6 panel system generate the money to add a couple more panels in 6-12 months, etc, etc, the more panels, the more saved for more panels without having to take a 2nd mortgage to buy an entire system.
Also when done this way your panels will have different "ages" and won't need to be replaced all at once as they lose effectiveness over the years.
Say start with 6-200wpanels,an inverter and go from there BUT lay it out on the roof with aplan of adding a few more each year.
Make sense?

You can blame me for a lack of 40,000 points as I was away at the weekend and both my crunchers decided to crash![]()
Just get your installer to oversize the inverter unit, then as you add more panels later your production won't outstrip your conversion capacity.

Way to go team. I am working on my clocks to battle the heat. Once temps cool down I should be able to do more.
I turned on FAAH a couple days ago for my non-linux machines, so my pendings are way down!
