Thanks, there was lots of struggle as a beginner.

I got 2 raptors 150gb in raid 0 and 3 1tb WD caviar green in raid 5 and one WD blue 500gb in raid 1 for 2 raptors.

Does anyone knows a way to add more hdd in raid 5? e.g. i have 3 hdd in raid 5 and add another 1 tb to it without losing any data.

Backup/remaking raid/restore from backup. Should work on any raid.
Some higher end raid controllers (eg. my 3ware 9650SE M24 is) are able to grow raid5/6 without data loss (took eternity to finish though), but no guarantee your is. Consult homepage of your raid controller vendor.
P.S. You might start getting issues with >2tb block devices (which your 3hdd raid5 after adding another disk will be larger then). Starting with need to use GPT instead of old dos partition tables, and maybe limited support in OS/bios.

Im using intel controller on my evga x58 motherboard, wondering this will work.

i need more hdd to back up my current raid to make a new one, not cost effective for

Could you please recommend decent raid controller pci card for me? I would appreciate that. Some controllers I have checked are quite expensive.

3ware, areca are good, but expensive. And these days controllers are pci express cards, not pci. But imho you'd be better off with backup/restore method instead of buying expensive hardware raid controller card. Don't you have some friends you could borrow disks for backup during growing of raid time? I myself am against stuffing main rig with loads of disks. I have dedicated network file server placed where i don't care about noise of disks/electricity costs

marxviper: i have to warn you that simply buying advanced raid controller won't get you through. After all, most different hardware raid controllers usually write their own specific service headers on disk in their own format to distinct what particular disk is and how it's configured into raid, so it's more then probable, that you won't be able to read your current 3 disk raid 5 made with integrated intel raid controller by simple reconnecting disks to newly bought advanced controller, so most probably no skipping backup-restore for you, sorry. You can only expect raid be readable on different controllers if it's software raid (support in OS). Eg. something from windows (IIRC called dynamic volumes or somthing, never used them), or mdraid in linux and so on. Then you can read that raid in another box with even fully different disk controller just fine if OS there is similar.

i think you should switch the tube coming from the res to the rad to the other port, that way the tube going to the rad next to it is the same length as the next rad over also. (omg what a long sentence, did it make sense?)
    Main: i7-930 @ 2.8GHz HT on; 1x GIGABYTE GTX 660 Ti OC 100% GPUGrid
    2nd: i7-920 @ 2.66GHz HT off; 1x EVGA GTX 650 Ti SSC 100% GPUGrid
    3rd: i7-3770k @ 3.6GHz HT on, 3 threads GPUGrid CPU; 2x GIGABYTE GTX 660 Ti OC 100% GPUGrid
    Part-time: FX-4100 @ 3.6GHz, 2 threads GPUGrid CPU; 1x EVGA GTX 650 100% GPUGrid

Wow, I really love the look of that build marx .

I'm also more and more beginning to like the tygon tubing. Although it has some coding on it which bothers me, I really like the glasslike reflection it has .

    thanx alexandr0s

I agree with you on the writing of the tube. But what could we do?

I really like the tube and how easily it bends without deforming.

Does anyone know how to overclock cpu on evga x58 classified motherboard? I check the manual and it is useless.

Any info or links would be appreciated.

Wow this build looks great from the side! Managing all the hardware in a MM case like that is a tough job, but you're getting it done.
Signatures make my posts look huge... but I'm not humble enough to completely remove my signature, so I kept this note explaining it.

thanks, it was tough but went alright.. Cable management is a mess

By the way, I tried overclocking and messed up after BSOD, the windows couldnt startup even with the repair from the boot cd so I had to reinstall it all over again.

Now I notice the computer is not as snappy as before. Its kinda slow.

Does downloading 5 mb per sec and verifying and repairing raid 5 array hdds affect the speed of the computer?

Nice build mate, hows the cable sleeving with this case? might need it for my next build since im going to be using 3x 480's, 990x etc...

Another thing I find funny is AMD/Intel would snipe any of our Moms on a grocery run if it meant good quarterly results, and you are forever whining about what feser did?
