So from what i've been reading on other threads, the 1015 chips are pretty good at OC'ing?

BTW particle can you add mine in there. ATM still at stock once i sort out my ram.

With the Koolance TMS-200 and expansion board up and running I was able to properly offset (+/-) my temperatures properly using HW Monitor and an actual temperature probe for verification.

As you can see the temperatures are within pretty nominal ranges using water cooling and running Prime 95 for my stability burn in which was 6 hours.

Here are the benchmarks and some other stuff like CPU-Z info and Super Pi 1M calculation. (I'm unsure about the 3D Mark 06 as I left all the options default from installation).

I've been out of town for a couple of weeks, but I've updated the charts now.
Particle's First Rule of Online Technical Discussion:
As a thread about any computer related subject has its length approach infinity, the likelihood and inevitability of a poorly constructed AMD vs. Intel fight also exponentially increases.

    Rule 1A:
Likewise, the frequency of a car pseudoanalogy to explain a technical concept increases with thread length. This will make many people chuckle, as computer people are rarely knowledgeable about vehicular mechanics.

    Rule 2:
When confronted with a post that is contrary to what a poster likes, believes, or most often wants to be correct, the poster will pick out only minor details that are largely irrelevant in an attempt to shut out the conflicting idea. The core of the post will be left alone since it isn't easy to contradict what the person is actually saying.

    Rule 2A:
When a poster cannot properly refute a post they do not like (as described above), the poster will most likely invent fictitious counter-points and/or begin to attack the other's credibility in feeble ways that are dramatic but irrelevant. Do not underestimate this tactic, as in the online world this will sway many observers. Do not forget: Correctness is decided only by what is said last, the most loudly, or with greatest repetition.

    Rule 3:
When it comes to computer news, 70% of Internet rumors are outright fabricated, 20% are inaccurate enough to simply be discarded, and about 10% are based in reality. Grains of salt--become familiar with them.

Remember: When debating online, everyone else is ALWAYS wrong if they do not agree with you!

    Random Tip o' the Whatever
You just can't win. If your product offers feature A instead of B, people will moan how A is stupid and it didn't offer B. If your product offers B instead of A, they'll likewise complain and rant about how anyone's retarded cousin could figure out A is what the market wants.

Sorry Particle, forgot to update my post.

Currently am stable at posted settings did a 1 hour medium data set occt.

Not particularly keen to do any longer due to the msi 4+1 even though it's only sitting at 38c after 1 hour occt.

The culprit for instability was ram so have rma'd the sticks will hopefully be able to run some tight timings hopefully

You guys aren't budging on the 8 hour blend tests? Like I'd be happy to do a 2 hour blend test just not 8 hours.....

Out of curiosity, what is a safe speed for the NB long term, aka, for heavy workstation usage...

Probably 2600-2800MHz, depending on voltage, I assume.

    that's terrific thanks

knowing this I'm definitely going for it now...

my Q9550 only scored 28000 and that was at 4.0 I'm afraid, so this is definitely a step up

eDIT: That's ok I found it... 890GPA Ud3H should be fine for now.... Thanks

Like richierich said, I'd worry more about V's and temps than clocks. I just keep going up slowly until I see diminishing returns from the voltage.

Personally, I wouldn't go over 1.325 for 24/7. My chip has very minimal returns after 1.3 anyway.
Maybe with cold I could go higher but with my settup it just isn't worth the extra heat...

its just not the most popular choice for the price, i think that most people are going crosshair or gigabyte. i would not get a another expensive msi board affter the gd70 790fx

also my 2677.9MHz NB clock is not on the list with my post

sovereignty68 as zanzabar said, most people are going the CF IV.

I've got the GD70, and i find it to be quite good.

Also chews has stated that it's a lil lax in performance per clock, but is able to push higher clocks due to the lack in PPC.

I'm still yet to really push the motherboard but with 350+HT i think it's right up there with the CFIV though.... *shrugs*

    Question

just a quick question..if you had to choose between the Gigabyte 890GPA-UD3H or the 790XTA-UD4 which would be better for getting to 4.0???

I assuming the UD4 because of the 10 phases, but I've seen some of you get to 4.0 on the 890GPA....

    just checking before I buy...

I'm gonna upgrade to a Crosshair/GD70 later, but for now my local store has these two Gigabyte models in stock... and I kind of am used to the Ultra-Durable 3 interface...

    Thanks

    Just done some more testing.

    Seems i can run 4.48ghz @ 1.52v vantage stable.

Going to try stability testing @ 4.08ghz!!!

    Thanks

well, I'll go with the 790XTA-UD4... the other guy uses it and it seems to be good and I'd rather have better voltage control and finer increments than what the 890gpa may offer...

could use that onboard video..but that sucks I'm using a serious GPU with this and need to support a 40'' HDTV so..

I've used a Rampage Formula before and I seem to remember the more phases helping...so it'll be this one...

9 days to go and then the

    big 6

hope to join you folks at 4.0 big ones...

    Thanks
