Question Help me pick best iCore CPU from these

    Guys,

Done it again. Too much reading on here.

Just ordered an Asus Maximus III Formula and was wondering which of these CPU's would be the best overclocker (on air)?

I will be using my rig for gaming only with 5970 GFX Card.

Intel Core i5-650 Processor (4M Cache, 3.20 GHz)

Intel Core i5-655 Processor (4M Cache, 3.20 GHz)

Intel Core i5-680 Processor (4M Cache, 3.60 GHz)

Intel Core i7-860 Processor (8M Cache, 2.80 GHz)

Intel Core i7-930 Processor (8M Cache, 2.80 GHz)

    Thanks in advance,
    Cinders.

well all your i5's you said are dual cores so i wont buy them. you can go for an i5 750? with a p55 GD65 or a i7860 with a p55 gd65 both nice combo's the 860 is just faster. the 930 is actualy the same as the 860 only the 930 has a tripple channel memory controller and has more lanes to the CPU so if you are going to use 2 or more cards the i7930 is the better choice with a X58 mobo like the ud3r. otherwise take the 860

    Q9550 @ 4.25 GHz, 500FSB, 2x2 GB OCZ Platinum 1066MHZ DDR2 @ 1001 MHz CL5-5-5-15,DFI LanParty DK P45-T2RS Plus, Powercolor HD 5870 1024MB , 2x WD Black Caviar 640GB Raid 0, 1x Samsung 250gb, 1x Maxtor 500GB IDE, Antec 900, Corsair TX-750.

for a 5970 is the dual core CPU is too weak(i5-650-655-680) so you must look for a i5-750 ,i7-860 so that you have a good performance.
i5-750 good performance and and cool when overclocking.
i7-860 there 4 cores and 4 Threads are relatively warm with over clocks but a better performance.
it is hard to OC a 860 with air cooling because it is very warm!
The i7-930 is for Mainboards 1366 and not for your Asus

Great choice. I picked one up and got it up to 4.0Ghz w/ HT on. Any higher and the H50 can't keep up with the load temps. Good luck with your results.

    By the way, which batch?

I'm based in Thailand. Here it was around 352 USD. The M/B 193 USD. But I live here and earn my money in Thai Baht, so it's not too bad.

The gear arrives on Tuesday so I will let you know what I get!

The question is now do a ditch my CoolerMaster V8 cooler for something better?....

It sure is hot here. But now the hot season is nearly over. Still I love it. We set our aircon to 28 degrees for sleeping, you get used to the heat after 4 years here. I'm in the tropics here (Koh Samui)

Anyway, its not hot in my permanently air-conditioned 20 degree computer room. 8 D

Any recommendations for a new cooler?

If you can get a cheap i7 920 (since they're not made anymore) I would go for that. Most of the D0's out there will do 4GHz and you can save a few bucks.

I just got that and a Gigabyte X58A-UD3R motherboard which is about $200 bucks and it's really great, inexpensive X58 board.

why not try with new megahalem or thermalright(which is higher price), should fine running them @4ghz-4,3ghz even on the hot country(like mine).

OK Guys. The i7 that turned up is as follows:

    i7-875K
    SLBS2 MALAY
    2.9GHZ/8M/09B

I also managed to get hold of a Thor's Hammer and 2 x 90CFM 120m fans to go on either side. Should be good I hope!
