Sorry, been on vacation and really busy. I am running stock with both. One is in a Thermaltake HTPC case and shoved in a entertainment unit. runs pretty warm in there. The other is in a open test case. One board is a engineering sample, the other is version 1 retail. I have not played with voltage n them since 1.6 bios. I had issues with 1.2 IIRC. I'll try and play with one this weekend, wife watches a lot of TV one the one. the other is running WCG.

    4. what bios was installed when the board died?

the reason for the questions are to see if there is any correlation between board manufacturing date *assuming that the bios version will give an indication as to how early in the product cycle the board was manufactured*
or if active phase switching is to blame and if it is, is it related to a version of bios.
Sorry for not posting in a while..

    1. I never got to check the BIOS version.
    2. I turned active phase off. But after a while I couldn't even get the option to turn in back on.
    3. The voltage was left on auto.
    4. I never got around to updating the BIOS because it just died.

Also in the beginning I was able to manually set the fsb but for some reason it wouldn't even let me select that option in the bios after a while. (I was @3.3ghz). I don't know what the deal is with that.

MSI RMA DEPT has just received my board. I'll try to update when I get it back, but I am kind of leaning towards buying another matx board.. I'll just see how it goes first.

Well got my RMA replacement back. Still revision 1.0, but the serial number on my old mobo was 1003 series. This is 1005.

I'm going to let her break in for a day or two and then get to flogging. I have a high-rpm 90mm fan blowing at the MOSFET heat sink.

I redid my Corsair H50 so that I've got:

    38mm-->Radiator-->25mm instead of:
    38mm-->25mmSpacer-->Radiator

Idle temps are 20C and Load were 41C at stock voltage and clocks with case cover off.

APC reported 172 watts at idle and 297 watts at load (LinX), which interestingly enough, is 125 watts difference.

We'll see how much more wattage she pulls when I crank her up to 3.8-4.0 Ghz.

Is this why they're blowing up? http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=217752

Idle temps are 22C and Load were 54C at 1.4V and 3.8 Ghz with case cover off.

5 Runs of LinX at 1.4V. PWM was slightly warm with the 90mm blowing on it. It's amazing that my system pulls 50 more watts with just IE, Chrome and Windows Mail open, where it shows 186 watts via APC .

So for this run I was pulling 135 watts idle and 361 watts load for roughly 226 watts difference.

Forgot to add in the first post CnQ and all power saving features were off.

It seems my results are in line with below in that my OC'd PhenomII X6 is pulling nearly twice as much power at load.

    http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu...g_9.html#sect0

My take: Current AMD boards that claim to support OCing, were designed with Ph II X4's in mind and thus power circuitry implemented accordingly to only handle a maxxed out 4 core (I'm talking non $200 boards meant for extreme OC).

I'm not going to push her past 3.8 Ghz as going 4.0 Ghz and above requires alot more voltage and as it stands now I have to actively cool the PWM area for my current OC.

I'll try and do some longer stability test with the case cover on tommorrow.

Don't think the ref is for any specific chip but just the fact that loads in general are playing havoc. I know for instance that Biostar wasn't using any type of cooler on their mosfets and users like me were smoking them regularly when pushing volts for high over clocks. It became standard to add sinks and dedicated cooling fan(s).

While I'm not going to use the board I have nor have I used any of these, from reading I think MassiveOverkill has pin pointed one of if not the issue.

Any update on your system massiveoverkill? I think my RMA is coming in the mail tomorrow because they shipped with FedEx and I missed it last Friday.

My brother is thinking of trading his Phenom II X4 BE for my X6 + cash. Would this be a good deal? From what I understand if I want to go the safe route for over clocking I should go with X4's.

My RMA board has been going solid for a week now at the OC in my sig. I do have an Antec Spotcool blowing directly at the NB/MOSFET area on full blast. If you can keep the area sufficiently cooled, I think you'll be OK with the Thuban.

I got my board back! Its the first time I RMA'd something successfully. They gave me new everything so pretty much I have two copies of the manuals, cd's and the back plate. It might be my imagination but the box looked a bit different because now it has a sticker that says "SIX CORE CPU SUPPORT" and I don't remember that being there with my first board.

Before I put it inside my case and fire her up, how would I figure out if its Revision 1 or 2?

My new box has the same sticker, but came with the latest BIOS as well. The revision will be silkscreened above the RAM slots by the model number.

Should be marked on the board, usually near the model number. If it is a rev 1, it won't be marked.

    its rev 1.0.

So I hooked everything up and.... no video. I don't even here a beep. Everything lights up though as if it is working. This time I am using onboard video since I've sold my two X1950's. I tried clearing the CMOS still no luck..

    **Edit**

The Power supply fan spins but there's no light on it. Now I can't even remember if it is supposed to have a light. Last, when I turn on the system it seems to be a little too quiet.. I don't know how to describe it but before when I turned it on and it works it seemed a lot louder than what it is now.. Could it be the PSU this time?

    ***Edit***

Ok I just tried two different video cards an X1600XT and a X2900Pro and I have no video. This is getting really weird.. I even tried booting with 1 stick of RAM and I don't think something is shorting the board, but I can check again tomorrow. My HSF isn't on too tight. My brother said he'll lend me his Phenom II X4 so I can check to see if its the CPU... I am starting to think it is the problem though. I checked and it looks like my PSU isn't supposed to have lights on the fan. Maybe its my CPU.... This is getting frustrating so I'm going to grab a beer and wait for replies lol... Oh and I can hear the hard drive sort of spin so I'm guessing its trying to boot something.

Your bios may not be able to handle the 1055.....flash the latest if and when the X4 boots up.

It's a possibility, but I doubt it. If the box had 6-core support sticker on it, it most likely has the latest BIOS, as mine did when I received my RMA.

Ok I found out the problem! When I took my CPU out and was boot to put in my brother's X4 I took a good look at my CPU and I noticed one of the pins is bent. I don't know how that happened.. I'm usually careful with my stuff. Anyways I managed to bend the pin back into the right place with a pair of really think tweezers and some telekenesis.. My computer is booting again and everything is working fine.

After going through all that I think I am not going to bother overclocking it for a while... I don't want to go through that whole mess again... or actually I'll just pretend that I over clocked it to 4ghz.

Finally I can start worrying about what to upgrade to buy next..

    Thanks everyone for the help!!

I am sorry, I have slacked a fair bit, life for me has taken a few twists and turns for a while. Been a sad depressing time losing a family member too young, tend to let stuff affect me too much that it interferes with my duties.

I will be trying to get these issues condensed and summarized for hopeful resolution...

If you can do me a favor and PM me with you issues and be as detailed as possible to describe the issue, all troubleshooting attempts w/ outcome I will add that to my documentation
