Project 800D'oh! (Previously Project HAF Black)

Might as well go ahead and start this up since parts are coming in heavily now. Here's my plan for the current setup, the only thing keeping me from building currently is the case I want hasn't been released yet.

Computer parts:
Core i7 930
Asus Rampage III Extreme
3x2GB Corsair Dominator 1600
HAF 932: Black Edition - Switched to Corsair 800D
XFX 5870
Corsair TX850W
WD Black 1TB x 2 for RAID 1

Loop 1:
EK Supreme HF-Nickel
MCP655-B
Swiftech MCR320-QP

Loop 2:
EK FC5870 rev.2-Nickel
MCP655-B
2xSwiftech MCR120-QP - Changed to a single MCR220-QP

Changed to 1 loop with all of the above components +1 EK Multi-option advanced 250 res

Misc:
5xCoolermaster R4-C2R-20AC-GP 120mm fans - Changed to 5 x GentleTyphoon AP-15s
BigNg fan controller
Primochill Primoflex Pro LRT 3/8"x1/2"
1/2" Red Anti-kink Coil - also clear and pearl colors
25 Koolance 1/2" Clamps - lots more than 25
6 Koolance 5/8" Clamps

Also, in case you've ever been curious as to what an EK Supreme HF would look like with a stripped screw....



Apparently I got old stock with the #3 jet plate installed EK is sending a new set of screws and I managed to get that one out with some man-handling.

Yeah, I realized that after I had bought 5 of them I expect most of them will go out within the next year or so and as they do I'll replace them with the GT 1850s.

So I found a deal on a Corsair Obsidian 800D for the same price as the HAF 932 Black Edition...and I couldn't say no. There's now an 800D headed this way to be delivered hopefully Wednesday or Thursday. I'm also trying to convince my fiance to get me a better digital camera for my birthday in a week so the pr0n should be better by the time I'm ready to start putting more pictures up

Alright, finally got some new stuff in and started drilling a little on the case.

I've never had to cut metal before so this has been an interesting experience for me.

I may have changed my mind a little on the fans after all...



Also got some cable management stuff in.



Did the "Obsidian mod" with the help of some other forums and a couple of guys on this forum:





Aaaannnnddddd finally the 3.5" bays are out.

Finally, the screws to fix my water block :-D

Alright, got a new camera and some new stuff so here goes. I'll try to keep it short and sweet.

After reading the review by Gabe on single loop vs dual loop temps I changed my mind and made it all a single loop. This seemed to make more sense for what I'm planning on using the computer for. After talking to Gabe on the phone for about 30 minutes I was able to get both of the rads installed. The new loop order is res > pump > pump > CPU > GPU > MCR320 > MCR220 > res.

Finally got everything hooked up in the system and completed the loop for proof of concept.



Did some leak testing for a few hours and nothing leaked on the first try



Picked up this guy after trying to fill the loop with a T-line the first time.




Ghetto-rigged it into my system with the stupid conversion kit for the D5.





Luckily it didn't leak.



The hose from the res to the pump was killing me, so ugly. The pump to pump connection wasn't very good either. So I turned the pumps to make it easier for the water to flow into the first one (gravity fed) and tubed them up. By the way, fitting 3/8" tubing on a 1/2" pump top is a pain.



I also put a drain port on the res after trying to drain it the first time.





I know I need to trim down the tube between the two pumps a few inches put this was the easiest/fastest way I could think to test for leaks without using anti-kink coil.



Hopefully I'll be able to get all of the fan cables finished before the weekend and have everything in the case and sealed up by Saturday or Sunday.

Thanks for the advice. I looked at the EK dual top but it's $95

I've also read that there isn't much of a performance gain from the top over the way I have mine hooked up but it's something worth looking into for the future. It just seems odd that I could buy another pump for cheaper than the top.

Yea, they aren't cheap. Might be able to get one from Sidewinders a bit cheaper. Just make sure to get the single loop version.

I don't know what the performance difference is tbh, but i really like mine as it cleans things up alot. I mounted an EK res directly to it and built a custom stand for it and worked out great. Not sure if the newer EK res will fit it though

But the only one Sidewinders has is white!

I've been looking at the Bitspower dual top also. It's definitely worth some consideration it just might be a little while off in the future when I do get one.

just give Gary a call at Sidewinders, he may have one there. i think i remember seeing a black one on his site once. sometimes he has stuff that is not listed on his website.

the bitspower one is nice as well. either one will make a nice addition for you down the road.

Alright, finally finished the build for the time being. At least until I decide to get a new top for the pumps or to do something stupid with what I already have

So first off, I didn't want to cut up my fan cables. Used the harnesses from the molex adapters that came with them along with some old NB/SB fans I had from a long time ago.

Also, I know the soldering station I have is ghetto.





Both of my connectors soldered up.



My attempt at sleeving It really didn't come out so well and I burned one side of the heat-shrink. This is what happens when you don't know what you're doing and try to use a grill lighter



Anyway, everything got hook up and I cleaned up my tubing situation a little and here's what came out.





Shorter pump connection (can't wait to get a dual top!).









Also, a small overclock to end the night until I have time to tweak things later. Not sure about my temps but they seemed okay to me for the time being.

Personally I don't like those temps. A i7 920 D0 at 1.237 at only 3.6 Yes only, 60c? I do 1.45 on air at maxes only at 80c.. C0 4.0ghz Maybe its prime vs linX I guess.

Yeah, a D0 920 at a voltage lower than what I'm running at (1.25 V, not sure why it's showing at 1.237, I may have left on auto Vcore) is probably going to stay cooler than mine. When I did 4.0 GHz I think my temps maxed out at 67C at 1.3V. Not sure what the problem there is aside from the fact that my 930 isn't as good of a batch as a 920 D0.
