This Gainward card is great! Closing in on 21k Vantage, all air rig. I need some watercooling, we will see what the summer brings. As for % overclock it sure beats my HD5870

Ill get another card as they are pretty cheap in Norway atm.

    Hi Oliver

Could you modify my bios for higher voltage please?
Also, I see that I have the 70.00.1A.00.02 - although you mentioned in a previous post that there were a newer bios which performed better. Is that a bios compatible for all GTX 480's, or? (I have the Zotac GTX480)

And one last thing: which version of "nvflash" do you use?

    Thx tent

EDIT: I found a newer bios from techpowerup, so hopefully you could modify that bios for higher voltage (the .zip called: GF100M_Zotac.zip)

Just a note to everyone outside the USA planning on water cooling a 470 or 480, the only place you can get warranties on them at the moment is at aqua computers when you buy the ready built 470 or 480

uhm, nope - my GTX480 and AB beta 6 max out @ 1,138 - and the bar itself max @ 1,213. Although, if I try to set the volt higher than 1,138, it just jumps back.

mine wont go over 1.087 either.
    unofficial overclocking set to 1
And the xtreme version dont either.
I got something wrong also. No bios mods here.
    NOTHING except afterburner.
Also I have had crash to desktop in 2 different games. MW2 and BadCompany2
And the heat that comes out the back of that card is 'incredibly hot'
Maybe I need a new fan profile? My MSI 470 is really very, very quiet.
My old card (8800gt) was "so" much louder; I dont mind a little noise. I guess im gonna have to edit the bios.
Set the fan a little more aggressive, and run cooler. Is the crash-to-desktop due to heat?
It only happened after an hour or go heavy gaming.
BTW.. Texas is hot; my ac is running non-stop.

Edit: Fan Profile 'really' helps this card cool down. I'm gonna play now and see if it crashes to desktop.

It took some modification but I am now the proud owner of a pair of PNY GTX470s

Current clocks are 750/1500/1727. Seems the memory is more touchy on my cards than is the core clock which I found suprising.

Max load temp after TIM change is 86C* on Furmark.

When running 2 GTX 480s how much power will it need just for the 2 cards? I am debating to run either 2 HD5870s or 2 GTX480s ... This way i know what power supply i will need. Thank you

    @Aedubber

A decent 850W PSU will handle your system with 2 GTX 480's just fine.

Yes. Very much so. Just google a few reviews, you'll see that SLI scales better than Crossfire, GTX470 SLI actually outperforms HD5870 CF in a few games iirc

Agreed, I've seen a lot of SLI systems reviews and it seems SLI get's better everytime there's a new GPU! I can't wait to see what happens when a game comes out with DX11 features, I wonder how CF will be perceived then...?

Nice to know it wasn't just my card and it seems nvidia needs to go back to the design drawing board

We patched GTX 470 bios GTX 480 data (shaders/ROPs info) to the address used by the GTX 465 upgrade tool - vcard work, but shaders don't unlock =((

Seems like there is way too many cards burning up ... Looks like I'll have to put a hold on ordering gpu cards .. Might have to stick with the initial plan of running 2 hd5870s .

I haven't heard of any cards actually burning up, runninng hotter yes. It is a must that you use a full tower case with either lot of fans or water cool your cards, whether I own ATI or Nvidia water cooling is a pretty good investment for the long haul! You don't have to buy the most expensive water block out there. Each year more and more heat is being generated by GPU's, imagine how cool you could be running without any overclocking. If you live in a warm climate water cooling in the long run isn't a bad idea, the water cooling companies must have a big grin on their faces since the release of Nvidia's GTX 470/480!
