    Poor 3dmark scores GTX295

So I just got a secondhand GTX295 and was playing around with it some and figured I would compare it to my 4850's. So I've run 3dmark03, 05, and 06 and all come up with much lower scores than my 4850's did. My Q9550 was overclocked to 3.65Ghz at the time I benched the 4850's and it is at 3.45 now with the 295 but I don't think my scores should be this much lower. I was actually expecting a decent boost. I was running XP64 with the 4850's and am now on win7 ultimate. I haven't tried the 3.65 run again as that was done at high Vcore and was unstable when I did it (damn C1 q9550 is a bum) but I could try it again, I still don't see how the scores could be this different tho. Anyways here are the scores:

    4850 CF
    3dmark03-66079
    3dmark06-20291 SM2-7811 SM3-9477 CPU-6030

    GTX295
    3dmark03-42529
    3dmark05-20159
    3dmark06-15625 SM2-6464 SM3-6579 CPU-5056

Thanks ahead of time for looking and giving advice guys, Im really puzzled, I thought a 295 would be atleast as quick as my 4850's. Gaming performance seems to be smoother as I can now run Age of Conan at full tilt settings at 1920x1200 where I couldn't with the 4850's... GPUZ and NVcontrol panel says SLI is enabled but I suspect something might be wrong there.

06 favors heavily processor clock speed. 3.65 isn't going to cut it.

Is the clockspeed going to make that big of a difference? I mean all 3 benchmarks seem way lower than they should be. As for the clocks I can't seem to get this C1 Q9550 to go much past 3.5 without becoming an unstable wreck, very disappointed with this CPU. Even if all of these were CPU heavy you would think going from 4850's in CF to a 295 would make up the difference easy, I mean the 295 is quicker than a 4870x2 so something is very wrong here IMO.

BTW just lunched Age of Conan again and the performance is WAYYY down now, 12-15FPS in areas I got 25-30. Im gonna try reinstalling the drivers and using driver sweeper... The 295 is also slightly overclocked to 633/1404/1134 to match the GTX275 speeds, which IIRC this is based on. The temps are reasonable at these speeds so I doubt it is throttling back. Do you guys think it isn't switching from 2d to high perf 3d properly?

Reinstalling the drivers brought AoC speeds back up running 3dmark now to see if that improved... Think Rivatuner broke the drivers? This is really strange...

    Edit:
Just ran 06 and posted a score of 17142
    SM2 6917 SM3 7915 and CPU 4926

So the driver Reinstall did something... But it still seems awefully low as I did a baseline run with the 4850's with everything at stock speeds and got 16468. Right now Im not very happy, what gives.. There is no way my 4850 setup was quicker..

Overclocked my CPU to 3.8 with some high volts just to see if that would change things significantly. Also the GTX295 is at 633/1404/1134.

06 came up to 20462 which is only slightly better than the 4850's in CF with the CPU clocked to 3.65. I don't understand what Im doing wrong here, I mean the GTX295 is supposed to be a quicker solution right? Please guys any suggestions into helping me figure this out would be appreciated. At least confirm that I am right in thinking something is wrong with these scores.

looks like O.C failure or bad config en bios
have you check it this at t Bios?

    -CPU Enhanced Halt (C1E)
    -CPU EIST Function
    -Virtualization Technology

Yes C1E is disabled as for the other EIST function I don't have a option for that.

virtualization tech is on b/c I use VM's, how much could that possibly affect my scores.

Hmm your scores do seem a bit low.
This is what I get with a very mild overclock on the CPU, but no overclock on the GTX 295

    Just shy of 18K.
    What motherboard are you using?

Just finished installing my watercooling and clocked the CPU to 3.7Ghz stable and did another run with the 295 also clocked to 633/1404/1133 and got a 16.5k ish result... Im at a total loss atm. I did mess with the nhancer program and did a run at I think 3.4 and got 17.9k... something is seriously screwed up here.

Running a biostar I45. Just got a swiftech XT lapped my CPU and replaced the NB TIM and replaced the push pins with through bolts at well as adding fans to that to keep it cool. But my chiller when set to 23.5C will hold my CPU at 52C running small FFT's while clocked at 3.7ghz with 1.4v.. I can't get much else out of this CPU even with 1.45 volts and some imo very high NB and VTT volts. So basically Im not gonna get anything else outta this CPU until I insulate and run the chiller down to its 5C setting.

Im really annoyed with this, I got much better results with my 4850's and much easier. This 295 should be at least 20% quicker.. I could be CPU limited but still you would think with the physx alone in 3dmark it would boost the scores. I am about to resort to a reinstall of windows to see if that fixes this..

Sounds like a good idea as it sounds like you didn't totally clean out the ATi drivers. Try driver cleaner first before you reinstall again though.

    My stock 295 with q9650 @ 4ghz with win7...

I owned both a 4850 CF setup and my 295 now.

hands down the 295 is way faster and cooler.
