These Nikon super tele primes are amazing. I thought my 70-200mm VR was top quality.. then I used the 300mm f/2.8 and it made my 70-200 feel like a cheap toy.

I've been interested in doing the same thing. There are baseball/softball fields within walking distance from my house and the games there range from little kids to college.

How did you get into that if you don't mind sharing? Do you just walk up to the field and start shooting?

Yea yea it's one of those things that'll sound creepy no matter how you say it. But I played sports my whole life and there were always photographers there and I never gave it any though since I wasn't into photography at the time. No one ever invited them or anything. They just showed up. I don't know if you need any type of press credentials or request permission from the school/organization.

press pass is definitely not needed for most sports.
for pro sports yes, most likely.
for sports played in a stadium/court of some sort, you need to ask someone, you cant just jump on the sidelines.

It all depends. I use media credentials at "national" events that get me in places most can't go; but, to just take a camera, no. (The photog I work with actually gets the credentials, I don't personally have the contacts or exactly know how it's done.)

Taking pictures of kids is funny, sometimes you need permission from the organizer depending on the circumstances.
Taking pics of your kids: ok.
Taking pics kids other than your own: better get permission or be recognized.
