    PowerColor HD5850 Flash Failed

    Hi !

I tried to flash (with a RBE modified bios) my 5850 to increase the limited frequencies of the CCC. But after a good flashing (atiflash says me all it's ok!), my pc doesn't boot When I remove the card, all it's OK..

    I used the command line : atiflash -f -p 0 cypress.bin

But now (after putting a 8800GT in 1st PCIE port and my 5850 in 2nd), when I want to flashing the card, atisflash says me : "Adaptator not found"

How do I fix it ?

    Thanks.

    hmmm

so I had no clue that you could run an ATI card and a Nvidia card at the same time!

take out the nvidia card and try just the ati card?

    Reflash using the Force command?

I flashed my Saphire 5850 with no problems. Hopefully you get yours sorted out.

the second slot would be atiflash -f -p 1 cypress.bin right?

Frogeye > If I put only the 5850, my pc doesn't boot...

    biohead > Yes. In first time, I used options "-f -p 0" and after when I installed the 8800GT, options "-f -p 1"...
I have always the same error message "no adaptator found".

I read that could come from a protection of the Rom Chip... This message appears to avoid a new flash...

Read the help part and find out all of the adapters...it's a system information command. I forget what it is. If you don't see the ATI card listed (along with adapter number) you won't be able to flash it.

That was the -i switch, wasn't it? OP, just try the -i switch, and see which adapters it lists. If you have the correct adapter number for your 5850 in that list, you can force the flash with:

    atiflash.exe -p <adapter number> -f <biosname>

The switch -i doesn't find anything.

Seems like the bios screwed the device ID, so that is can't be identified as an ATI card anymore. Assuming your nVidia card is in your upper slot, and your ATI in the next slot, have you tried the command:

    atiflash.exe -p 1 -f <biosname>

That should force a flash on the secondary card.

Edit: Make sure you use an up to date atiflash version. Older version didn't support 128kb bioses, so it might only flash the first 64kb of the bios, resulting in corrupted bioses.

he already tried force flashing the first time (-f -p 0/1 doesn't matter which order i think).

Not trying to make you look stupid, but it's human to make mistakes: Have you plugged in all power cables after switching your radeon out for a nVidia card? As far as I know, it will require those power cables, even if you only need to flash it.

It's weird. But i only modified the bios of my 5850 !! I get it with GPUZ and modified with RBE before flashing. The device should be the same one!

Did you use the latest version of Atiflash as I asked earlier?

    Hi !!

I'm very happy !! My Powercolor is alive In fact, Don't use a nVidia videocard but only an ATI in PCIe Port 1. After installed a HD4870, Atiflash , found my 5850 ! A simple atiflash -p 1 cypress.bin and that's OK
