OCZ Announces the PC Power & Cooling Silencer Mk II Power Supply

OCZ Technology Group, Inc., a worldwide leading provider of high-performance solid-state drives (SSDs), memory modules, and power supplies for computing devices and systems, has unveiled the Silencer Mk II Power Supply Unit (PSU), the latest PC Power & Cooling solution.

Designed with enthusiasts and power-users in mind, key features of the Mk II include a Single +12V Rail for maximum and efficient power distribution, a thermally controlled 135mm double-ball bearing fan for airflow at near-silent audible noise levels, extremely tight and well regulated electrical noise and ripple, and an ideal array of connector types for each wattage. Offering excellent energy and cost savings, the Mk II features ultra-high efficiency with 80+ Silver (650W, 750W, 950W) and 80+ Bronze (500W) certifications, converting up to a full 88% of AC to DC power at typical loads.

Guess the myth about large downdraft cooling fans has now bit the dust, eh?

And the OEM appears to be Sirfa/HighPower. *Sigh* Guess OCZ is really in control of PCP&C despite what was said when OCZ acquired PCP&C and OCZ's insistence that PCP&C would be left alone to its own devices. To drop Seasonic as its OEM supplier for its Silencer line for Sirfa/HighPower really isn't a step up. Guess it will bolster the profit margins on them, though.

We shall see how they perform when tested. Despite the high efficiency, and high efficiency ratings do not indicate quality, I'm not exactly holding my breath on this move. Sad, really.

Unfortunate, especially as Seasonic is basically the top OEM for PSU's. I'll wait for Oklahoma Wolf to tear one of these apart.

If they even send him one. He had a rather difficult time getting an OCZ Z-Series sample sent.

i thought OCZ was refocusing the company line down to RAM and SSD??

a little before that announcement was made and now, there are huge rebates and discounts on their psus. i was thinking they were trying to get rid of the last stock??

anyway, im not sure what has changed there, but ive noticed as of lately their RAM QA has suffered hugely and their PSU are less than desirable. but at least they still seem to have great customer service.

If only the sticker would be replaced, it had looked awfully lot like my Corsair HX.

The fan and the fangrill looks identical, the side where the powerbutton with the holes are looks identical, the button is exactly in the same spot compared to the power connector but the button itself is a bit different tho.

These do sound quite promissing on the paper, I don't think it's something that will set apart from the competition but probably another option that sits there with the top dogs.

Ah old PCP&C, what has become of you...Hard to think there was a time when the name PCP&C itself would mean you have the best quality PSU there is, period.

If only they didnt have their stupid 80mm fan is the best motto, and didnt sell off to OCZ. Why has OCZ allowed the OEM to be changed from Seasonic? Profits? I really doubt the new OEM are any better than Seasonic anyway. I was hoping the new Silencer line would be 80+ gold, have their usual tight regulation etc. Heres hoping thats the new Turbocool line with a 120+ mm fan as well.

    Sigh...

For the prices they could sell PCP&C units, it's stupid to move to a cheaper OEM. People paid for top quality; even if buying Seasonics with top parts inside was expensive, it was MORE than offset by their higher prices. Heck, that's why Corsair still does so incredibly well with their (Seasonic-OEM'd) 650TX's; they're very capable to supply >650W and voltage regulation is top-quality.

Unfortunately for PCP&C, I did, too. Despite OCZ's proclamations to the contrary when the sale went through, it was inevitable.

And from seeing many, many posts on multiple forums decrying OCZ's worsening quality of its memory products, it was almost a given that the power supply line was next for cheapening.

It should have been obvious, though, when PCP&C's product quit being restocked on etailer/retailer shelves. Even after PCP&C introduced the very nice Silencer 910, it disappeared after only being on the market for 3-4 months.

And when OCZ moved to Sirfa for its Z-series units, one could reasonably see OCZ moving PCP&C's production there, too, to save a dollar.

Sad when a company buys a name only to turn it from being one of the most respected names on the market into just another also-ran.

Heck, Corsair's doing incredibly well with every power supply they've released. They've almost assumed PCP&C's position in the market for quality, dependability, and performance at a lower price.

i think its kinda funny how so many PSUs are built in the 600-800W range, my pc pulls 350W from the wall in the highest load ive seen, thats with 2 video cards, an OCed quad, 4 sticks of overvolted ddr2 ram. im all for future proofing, which is why i have a 650W, but i would much rather see quality 400W PSUs with gold ratings and a solid large amp 12v rail.

if my PC used 500W more to play a FPS 10 hours a week, it would cost me 3$ a month over what my current system does, which is 1.8$ (basically every 166W for 40 hours of gaming comes to 1$ per month for me)

most people probably are in the same boat as me, its quite hard to actually reach 800W unless your budget is really sick, then i bet you dont care about energy consumption. long story short, we want good quality lower wattage PSUs. we just got some cute little desktops at work, dell machines with IGP graphics and a 2.5" hdd, the PSU is rated for 180W, but is 80+ Gold rated. kinda a shame you get 90% efficiency in a 400$ pc.

    Ferm it

Ferming will kill those 350-400W PSU's. I do agree though, need more 500W PSU's

On a side note, PLEASE dont ruin the Turbocool as well. That ones always been built to a standard, even though it screams when loaded up. Replace that 80mm fan and we still have a great PCP&C PSU

It looks like I'll keep my old silencer 750W for a long time.

You do know that the Turbo Cools are simply off-the-shelf power supplies from Win-Tact and rebranded, but I seriously doubt OCZ has kept that contract intact, either. No Turbo Cools have been able to be reordered by retailers for months. Bet it's another dead line at PCP&C.

Yes I am aware their OEM is Win-Tact..Thing is, they still performed quite well albeit producing a screaming noise at full load

Come on, turbocool cannot be a dead line, it has been PCP&C's main line of PSU's from way, way back

I hope an OCZ employee can shed some light on this matter
