The XCool bios options work for you at zub zero? That's a first lol.

Yep. With my 759 it works, either xcool or bios options. (-50°C)

What BIOS would you recommend for Bloomfield?

    Concured. S61J in a 760 has served me well for both 920s & 960s.

any improvement of uncore clocking with that bios? I can run 5.1 all day but the 16x action is killing some benches for sure. 17x is no go, 18x would be a miracle. Probably the cpu's fault but I've driven this 920 to its limits every bench and just need that little bit more

For me it depends on used ram and ram multiplier. With the Corsair GT and 8x higher Uncore showed as problematic. With my backup ram ocz 12800 gold it works fine with 8x and 17-21x uncore (did not test further). Same cpu was used. But it was using an older bios (before 227, E759) iirc. Things may have improved.

I'm still on the factory bios lol, after so many stable runs at 5.1-5.2 made it hard to change

I've tried a few sets of ram, same results. 8x ram and 16x uncore seems to be it's limits. I'll give the bios you suggested a shot and see if it opens anything up.

    Cheers,

18x is no problem for me. I can not speak to improvement. I started with 61J & have been reluctant to move off of it.

VTT is a closely related issue to Uncore Freq. I bench with VTT [+325]. I do not recommend this for 24/7.

My Uncore freq tops out at approx 4500Mhz. However, I am usually benching in the 4000-4100 range. My system will give me a bit more core freq if I back off Uncore a little. It is a balancing act...

I bench between +325 and +350, uncore doesn't scale at all with it for me..... and definitely not 24/7 lol. Just during some DICE sessions.

My chip scaled Inversely after +325. System stability went down the tubes with any more. Yes, I am also using DICE for benching. Looking forward to trying LN2.

Slightly OT. I have had better stability running my memory @ 1762Mhz (6-7-6-19) rather than pressing for more frequency with looser timings. How do you configure your CAS6 sticks?

Edit:NM tired eyes found your ram config in your sig...

2:6 just doesn't boot so I'm stuck with either loosening these, or running my PI Black 2000's at either CAS 8 or 9 as well. Also tried lower VTT, but it just seems like the window of bench stability is super narrow with either the board or the cpu.

    Same here, on both counts.

Sorry to report that you may have the "short end of the stick".

I have limited "hands-on" experience with i7s (920C0, 920D0, 920D0 #2, 960D0). I have noted a relatively wide range of performance variance within this group. Your chip appears to be near the bottom of the uncore ranges that I have first hand experience with... Wish I could offer more help.

    Best Regards,
    Raptor

OK. "Short end of the Uncore Stick". Trading Uncore for Core has always been a good transaction in my experience.

depends on the bench. Gotta love those 960's though, take allot of the work out hitting high bclks.

I am running +225 Vtt for 24/24, doesnt seem to get stable under that due to high memory clock (143 qpi, 1:14 multi), and especially above 4GHz. So far no problem, it's crunching on BOINC. Dunno what's the limit on these chips for 24/24 operation...

    24/7 running quiet and nice

24/7 I run 4.1ghz HT off, 1.245v real vcore, 1.125v VTT real, at 1.5v vdimm.

I always run with HT on. My 975 wont run under 1.275V for 4Ghz and from there Vcore requirements raise fast.
My concern is with VTT, my corsair kit (CMG6GX3M3A2000C8) wont run at spec speed with any less than +225.. I can drop to +200 if i drop the CPU speed to stock, but once at 4GHz it requires +225 to get stable again.
    Can i run this 24/24 really ?

    24/7 running quiet and nice
