Is anyone using aftermarket mosfet coolers on any of these boards? I would love to throw a couple of HR-09s on my P55A UD3.

I haven't tried using anything as fancy on these UD3 test boards. I tried some make-shift aluminum mini-sinks and one piece heat sink parts from other boards. The mini-sinks didn't work out too well - bad thermal tape me thinks. Using thermal paste actually helped transfer heat far more efficiently.
Those HR-09s look pretty cool. Too bad they don't come in polished black. :p~~~

So I picked up 3x Samsung F2EG 1TB drives today to run in RAID0 on the Intel (only controller with enough ports). But when I enable the X.H.D. my Intel SSD (OS disk) loses AHCI mode and it causes Windows 7 to crash at every boot

Is there a beginner guide around, or some bios screens?
I just got a ga-p55a-ud3r and an i5 750
I'm just after a fairly light overclock. 3.4 or 3.6ghz, and keen to get my ram timings down.
I've been reading miahallen's review
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=235289
and it mentions "Next up, I've got some 24/7 settings for you everyday overclockers", but there is only bios screen of the voltage. Hoping for some more info
See this screen here....
http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t...n/IMG_7219.jpg
Is 'Normal' actually the cpu's correct stock voltage? Or is the bios just giving a general safe value for 'Normal'?
I'm wanting to know what my stock voltages are so I can manually set them.
And what's the XMP thing?
If you look at the printout from CPU-Z you will see many things the app does not display on the screen. One of them is the XMP setting.
Various tests show that pushing RAM speed does little to augment performance. Don't bother.
Where do you live that you were able to get a GA-P55A-UD3R? In the US all I could get was the GA-P55A-UD3P.

What's the difference between P and R? (apart from being different letters, har har)
Thanks for the CPU-Z tip, I did not know that
The -P has an unneeded chip on it. Waste of money. And I've seen -R's featured in major feats of overclocking. Not so the -P.

Gday peeps, just ordered the Gigabyte P55A-UD3 and an i7-860 as a cruncher for Extreme's upcoming WCG run. I was planning to pull 3 sticks of Trident PC2000 DDR3 RAM out of my main rig so as to keep costs down for now.
Does anyone know if this board will run 3x2 gig sticks of RAM or do they have to be in pairs?
TIA
John
Try it and see. Then report your results.

I picked up a P55A-UD7 yesterday, LLC1 has major vdroop compared to the P55A-UD6 and the X58A-UD7. 1.46125vcore in bios to gives me 1.376vcore load using LLC1. When set to LLC Standard, 1.46125vcore bios gives me 1.340vcore load. Also tried dynamic vcore, I still get droop using it, 1.424vcore idle-1.392vcore load. I am on the latest bios F5, I am wondering if I got a bad board or is this normal for the UD7?
with mine i set 1.312v in bios using LLC1 and get 1.28v idle and 1.26v load,w/bios F4
i will do some more testing in the next two days and let you know my findings

Thanks radaja.
This is using LLC1, inbetween loops 13% cpu usage.
Uploaded with ImageShack.us
This is 100% load, it toggles between 1.392 and 1.376.
Uploaded with ImageShack.us
With no load on the cpu vcore in cpuz reads 1.456v. This much droop cannot be normal for LLC1.
I have not tweaked the voltages yet, but it seems to require more vcore for the same oc than my UD6.
I am pretty sure there is something wrong with this board. Now when trying LLC2 it locks up at exactly 7 seconds into linx no matter what vcore. I have flashed back to f3 bios and have the same results. Will send this beotch back to the egg and get a refund.
