    Low pump noise, high flow

The rig in the sig, I am very happy with, except one thing, pump noise, I have all the pumps isolated UN mounts, with rubber mounts to them, 2" acoustic foam + Akasa PaxMate PLUS Premium all over the interior of the case, and they are loud as hell, been running it for 2 weeks, all air is bled out, but man they are noisy, my old DDCs seemed noisy, but the 3.25's seem louder?
so I have 3 D5's with speed control laying here, one with a Detroit top, the two I was thinking about using the EK dual D5 top.
My question is, performance wise in my loops, will I lose any performance? and most importantly will I see a large reduction in pump noise?

Is this your Drunken Monkey build? If so, the reason they seem so loud is the amount of open area in the front of the case.

As for the D5 Q's. If you turn them down to 2-3, yeah, they'll be quieter. Performance wise, hard to say precisely. . .you might lose 1-3°C. Only way to really find out is to try it.

I didn't know my rig could be so quite after i hooked up an 355 to Aquareo and drop the power input to 70, 3550rpm with fans @ 800rpm, only saw 2°C difference in idle, can't believe how quite things are now, I'm even much more encourage to leave my computer on for overnight operations. if there is a way to control your pump via software the best thing to do is set it up so during idle it runs low.

Hmm how low can you under-volt the 3.25's and not cause any harm to them? that might be my first move, very easy to do, and I could easily measure the results.. I just got it all finished, and really do not want to re-do much for the moment.. maybe 6 months down the road.

There have been reports of DDC's going as low as 5v but it's not safe for long term use (I tested it and now that pump refuses to start at 5v but will at 12v). For long term use, I really wouldn't go below 8v, that might even be pushing it but it's the lowest "starting voltage" listed on Laing's PDF.

well, I will try them at 9V, and see if there is any detrimental cooling loss, and if the noise level is reduced enough to make it worth wile.
    Thanks!
