Talking Asus turns Phenom II 960T (quad) into hexacore

I just received these in an email that self destructed after i opened it and saved the pictures

how much will the 960T cost? the hexa cores will be cheap already, so the savings wont be huge i guess...
still, 2 extra cores for free is 2 extra cores for free...
i still cant imagine why somebody would want 6 cores... but for those of you who do, this sounds like good news

Yeah, that would really be the icing on the cake! But why does CPU-Z say x6? Shouldn't it be x4?

notice how the folder shows a picture in it for the x4 screenshot, as if they did the x6 photo, then the x4 photo. quite suspicious. and what is a 1605T anyway

wow that was fast. i wonder how stable these "extra" cores are. i mean they just started producing these and i cant image demand being so high for these that they have to lock the 2 cores out and sell them as quad-cores like with the phenom II x2's. if anything, it seems the demands for the x6 are much higher so they would try to pass as many x6 as possible than lock out them out and sell them as x4s.

Well you could just look at the times to see that the X6 was done first.

maybe this is actually done by amd to get attention and they showed the mobo makers how to do it?

no idea why it shows 1065t... i asked franck from cpuz, hes going to look into it... maybe it has to do with the bios hack that enables the extra cores? no idea...

only? if the 1055T is gonna be 200$ish, then 150$ sounds like a real deal. but what about the 1035T then? with these things already being sold, and the international release date so close, where the hell is the AMD pricing table.

You can unlock 2 but use msconfig to set 5 as number of cores . And voila, you have X5

Don't some BIOS have settings to only enable a certain number of cores?

Neat. Hopefully they're at least typically stable after unlocking, that would be awesome.
