I'm curious as to how many people here have the C1 clicking at boot. If it's only a minority I can RMA my board and claim it's a production error. So people, please state if you have the C1 clicking or not and if you're OCed or not when it happens.

I have C1 clicking when OCed only.

I haven't tried, but I'll mess around with my RAM when I get home. I'll test just 1 stick to see if it is RAM related. I'm currently using 1 3 5 slots as recommended.

Just checked the RAM. Single / double / triple works fine in the white slots if you start at #1. The blue slots wouldn't post with only 1 stick. Tried upping vdim slightly and vtt, but still got the C1 clicking.

One of the best things with GB is a active BIOS-team. Bu I hope they got the new microcode into this one. Do you know they did it?

I'm running @3.8Ghz (22x173) 1.21v, VVT=1.32v for 24/7. Because my X5650 has a locked x20 Uncore that needs a lot of VVT to stabilize. I've done some testing @4.2GHz (22x191) 1.26v, VVT=1.44v and seams to be stable, but I don't dare to use that much VVT for 24/7 yet. At least not until we get to know these chips better.

The @3.8GHZ is about 25% faster than my w3520 @4.5GHz (in CPU intensive tests like CineBench 11.5), but this CPU will show it's real strengths on a OC-able doable socket MB, which I'm waiting for and hoping GB will release one soon, too.

So when do you think we will get to know these chips better?
Some people say just the xeons (DO stepping) could take a lot vtt voltage. Even more than 1.4v wouldn´t be a problem

I tried to change to 200*20 with 1,36v VTT and 1,62VDIMM.
But I got a bsod (124) by starting windows. After I rolled back to 192*21 windows had to repair something before it got started.

Do you gess what was wrong?

I have for test X58 Extreme2 - earlier version, which never appeared in retail. But it's almost indentical to UD7. I'm just wondering if anybody knows how to make boot faster? It takes so long time. I's really annoying, especially when you have ln2 pot mounted on board

Some people say just the xeons (DO stepping) could take a lost vtt voltage. Even more than 1.4v wouldn´t be a problem

Your Xeon is a 45nm and they have been around for a while, and we know they can take a lot of torture, including high VVT. 1.36v end even more should be OK. Raise the vdimm to 1.65v first, then loosen the RAM timing, to eliminate the RAM-problems, and if it doesn't help, raise the VVT for BCLK200.

I'm talking about these new (just released) 32nm chips, and these are hopefully as resilient too. I haven't seen many dead/degraded chips, but I need a bit mire time to make sure.
According to Intel these should take more VVT, max 1.4v vs max 1.35v for 45nm, and it sounds promising already. But I personally trying to be more conservative than usual, because I don't want to kill/degrade it before I get chance to try it on a double socket MB.

^^ A fast SSD is going to have a big effect on boot time, but one should stay away form RAID, it takes time to initiate and would delay the boot. OCing the CPU will help too.

One could try to disable unused resources in BIOS and see what helps, too.

First try to change the SATA port. Don't use the 6GB/s port, or the GB-SATA, Use the Intel ports. Trying different SATA-port, will most probably solve you problem.

The delay for finding HDD is 0 by default, and if you have changed the BIOS, you should set it it back to 0, too.

    Hi !

Sorry by my bad English. I'm Spanish.

Last week I installed a Sapphire 5850 in this motheboard. Previous card was Nvidia GTX 260.

Now with a Corsair HX620W there is too much electric sound in FA. With my old GTX260 this electric sound exists but a bit less.

Is the motheboard causing my problem or it's FA ?

Yo Guys.. Was wondering if anyone could help.. What do you think I should change to get over 6ghz on the i7 980x.. I just got it today and ran 3dmark 06 all the way through at 5709mhz.. 1.88v 0n the ud7.. 5800mhz gives me this weird screen with flashing colors.. Also... sometimes when I hit over 6ghz the entire screen goes black..
What could that be? Pcie voltage or ioh? I really want to run this proc over 6 on the ud7 but I'm having trouble so far. cheers for any help!!

I guess you have tried higher multi and lower BCLK?

I've had same display artifacts when the BCLK was too high for my w3520 (on air).

With 1-3 sticks of memory you can only use the white slots. One stick should boot in any of the white slots, if it does not then you either have a problem with missing channel or slightly incompatible memory.

To check missing channels, put in all sticks and go in the BIOS. Set SPD Timing choice to Expert and then check each channel main timings, if you see - Or N/A for any of the channels main timings then you have a problem which would need further discussion

Well a few ways you cold fix this. Update to the latest UD7 BIOS with SPIFlash, should work if the boards are as similar as you say.

Or you could edit the RAID/AHCI roms in the BIOS you are currently using to the latest making sure you use 1.20E AHCI rom. If you need help with that PM me.

Nvm, I found solution for long post procedure ; in standard cmos, I change all unused ports from auto to none, and now post time is about three seconds.

    Thanks for Your tips.

    Got my Gulftown!!

I've got myself a 980X with the same batch number as 'SteveRo' (3003B287-SLBUZ). So, that's it then I must hit 4.8GHz without trying .........not!

When I return to Earth i was hoping SteveRo or somebody could post a profile of their bios to get me started.

    Many thanx
