Special thanks to all who recently joined the team

Thank you for responding to Dave's email.

Feel free to ask any questions. We will improve the set-up guides to make it easier for new members.

Our team is still relatively small compared to some of the others. There are a couple of teams with more than 10,000 members. But we've always prided ourselves on having the most productive members. Our team currently ranks third in the world in total WCG point production. That includes points as well as work units processed and returned to WCG. With a little help, we could easily pass the number-two team.

Our main purpose during Supercomputer Week is to show the power of XS and the power of grid computing. One machine may not seem like much. But thousands of machines working together can generate enormous computing power.

    Thanks again for your help.

I joined WCG yesterday myself. Too bad my new rig won't be ready to add the the points total but that EVGA SR-2 is not out yet! I am building my rig just for crunching and moderate office use but always glad to participate in the event.

I'm now on board, I have already churned out my first five WUs (reported, anyway) from my Quad Xeon (4.2GHz) and my Lappy's C2D (2.5GHz). BOINC is great! No slowdown of my computer, it just runs as a low priority task so I can continue to game and surf. The only difference is the temperatures :P

my dad works for ibm & i mentioned this to him. i said our forum is trying to get everyone on for a week to beat ibm supercomputers & his reply was "Right." then next text said "you better do some serious overclocking" lol i told him he might be suprised

hehe i think i will try to get in. i will have 2 ~4ghz quadcore rigs running, maybe a 3rd if i can get my psu rma'd before then, and also get another hard drive/more ddr3, which is pretty unlikely, but 2 should still help

Just an FYI. IBM is one of the main sponsors of the World Community Grid. They provided the servers that WCG uses. IBM also has a number of WCG teams. Their top team is ranked fourth, right behind us. But we have double their total points.

Oh how this brought a smile to my face!
I think I will have to sig this as Dear Lord is it a motivator!
You tell your Dad that Xs might not have the resources of one of the biggest companies in the world but we "ain't exactly clueless" when it comes to getting the most out of a system.
You also might want to tell him that there's an old fart up in NH with a "home built" machine that will wipe the floor with any dual socket and most quad socket machines they have!
    No brag, just fact!

Oh I just gotta sig that comment of his!
Nope, better idea, that goes into the reminder email that goes out on April 29.
JUST that comment ought to bring another 1000 people or more!

hehe i wouldnt have posted it if i didnt think you would like it after he said that i said "you really think we couldnt equal the computational power of your supercomputers?" and he said "maybe" so i think he was already second guessing himself

Guys, when I upgrade to Q6600 or something similar, will definitely begin to crunch... My D820 is too slow for normal use let alone crunch :-/
