Those 12v-connections looks really exotic, and this looks promising. But a double socket OC-able MB would be great too.
Does anybody know if GB is going to release a MB for Xoen DP, maybe a UD9DP?

Yep, double socket is the only way to go now

If that really is the final version of UD9, I'm not impressed. The heatsinks look ugly compared to the UD5 and UD7, and the board is kinda ugly.

Seems doubtful to me that it's final. I'm sure retail will have the fancy (and useless) heat pipe thing. As I burned through a small fortune on my recent build I'll probably be getting a ud9 but dual xeons isn't in the cards for me :<

It's a bit off-putting to me seeing all the extra power connectors. Does it not mean that cooling mods could be costly?

Better check my house water supply pressure

So I'm picking up this MB today and I got a 920 C0 chip.. It's been giving me a hard time while OCing, but I'm hoping it was the mobos fault. Anyone with a C0 and a good OC?

And I'm wondering if anyone has got a boot problem when OCing. I do with my EX-UD3R. When OCed it makes the clicking sound that comes from rebooting like 5-7 times and then posts. When it's not OCed it posts fine, but I get a high pitched noise that goes away when I stress the CPU just a little bit, but when I'm not doing anything the noise is there.

That is the old images of the UD7P testing board, it's not new and definitely not the final UD9 board either.

I am using 965 ES C0 and don't have any problems with this board Freonor, running 4.2Ghz

You may need a new PSU to stop your coil whine, test with another and see if you still have it. C1E + EIST Disabled of course.

I'll try when I get my hands on another PSU. Think one of my mates still haven't fixed his computer which means I can probably steal his... Thanks for the input.

    Bios F7c ????

Just a quickie as I need to rebuild - array corrupted grrrrr.
Anyone tried bios F7c any good or bad, otherwise think I will revert to F4 before rebuilding my system as F4 was always reliable and low v core for me.

Some quick responses would be much appreciated as I need to re build my system tonight.

Have some improvements with F7c as my CPU (980X) needs less VCore and VTT

    Thanks Crashmax,

I may just give F7c a go then. You lucky devil - 980x, hope you are enjoying it. I might upgrade to one myself - I suppose 4Ghz should be relatively easy on the 980 ???

Haha. My computer life sucks :S Was quite excited about getting rid of the C1 posting bug, but alas. It prevailed from the UD3R to the UD7... Think it's my cpu?

Nice clock there crashmax - scary voltage tho at 1.584. I would not even attempt such voltage for fear of exploding an expensive chip.

What sort of ballpark v core for 4Ghz as I would like to achieve that for useable 24/7.

That's not much vCore, these chips loooooooove vCore and can put it to good use!

Zalbard - Did I misunderstand your post?
980x, 32nm - 1.584v seems like a lot to me w/o many 980 users reporting just yet - where are you seeing 1.584 is "not much vcore"?

Then stuff your cpu in and check it out maybe do a little benching right there. Maybe make some friends.

I pulled into a small computer store in Portland a few years back. There was a crowd gathered around a computer system. They were trying to overclock for the first time. It a P5N-e SLI with a e6400 chip in it. I got to talking with the group and the next thing you know I was doing the overclocking and showing them around the bios. We got it to around 3650mhz stable.
the store is gone now but we are all still friends. And that system is still in use..

    Give it a shot.

I googled "computer repair" in Lincoln, NE and called all of them.

Would you believe... not a SINGLE ONE has a core i7 920 cpu? Nor is there a store in the whole city that sells CPU's. Nor can any of them recommend a store to try that I haven't called and which might be able to flash the BIOS for me.

So I'm mailing the board back to Gigabyte to have them flash the BIOS and test out the board for me. Hopefully that will work and I'll get it back soon.

I believe one of the Overclockers staff blew up a 980x with 1.4v I think it was. However it was an ES chip though, but still 1.4 v core is Intel quoted maximum for this chip - so I would be very wary of taking too much risk with v core as it could be a very expensive mistake.

Someone said the ES chips didn't have the overvoltage/v spike protection that the retail units have.
I think I may have seen only one - maybe two retail chips in the 32nm graveyard thread - I need to go look again - they might of all been ES.

Edit - I have been as high as vcore 1.6v and qpi/vtt 1.46 (980x) and no problems yet - that was for short periods - maybe 30-40 minutes - chilled water - 2xboreas in series.

It is too early to say anything for sure about these 32nm-6cores, but high vCore seams to OK for short benching/testing runs, as long the temp is under control, and these chips runs really cool too.

The 24/7 voltages is a totally different history, because the long term effect of high voltages on degradation/death is not clear yet. Besides, the power usage can get really high with hight voltages. The 24/7 challenge is more about finding the sweet spot, not the edge, at least in my book.

High VVT can be a bigger killer/degrader than vCore, actually. The OC limitations of my X5650 is based in VVT, because it has a locked x20 Uncore that loves (and eats) VVT. I've chicken out on VVT=1.32v for now, until we get to know these chips better.

    Wow! Super stoked guys!!

Just dropped in this 980X, and on first boot I could boot from BIOS with 230 Bclk, on water. I didn't try higher yet because I needed to get into the forums for now.

Pushed to 235.07 within a few seconds, seems like this CPU will be GREAT under Dry Ice, I can't wait to try it out!! I think within the next day or so I could easily get 240 or above, on water, so I think I may be able to get 250+ on Dry ice possibly?

    CPU-Z Validator 3.1

These UD7 boards are super smooth to overclock with, very impressive!!

Anyone else have some Max clocks on this board? I have only seen a few here and there, not many lately either.
