    Issue running BOINC on Fedora 12

    I have been trying to get BOINC to run on a Fedora 12 machine but am getting an error on the BOINC Manager of "Error Retrieving current status". I know that the client is running and have it set to auto start and that it is listening to 127.0.0.1:31416.

    [xyz002@ossadmin ~]$ ps -ef | grep boinc*
    boinc 1307 1 0 14:41 ? 00:00:01 /usr/bin/boinc_client --dir /var/lib/boinc
    500 1974 1917 0 14:52 pts/0 00:00:00 grep boinc*

    [xyz002@ossadmin ~]$ netstat -nat
    Active Internet connections (servers and established)
    Proto Recv-Q Send-Q Local Address Foreign Address State
    tcp 0 0 127.0.0.1:631 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN
    tcp 0 0 127.0.0.1:31416 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN
    tcp 0 0 127.0.0.1:25 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN
    tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:37214 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN

    tcp 0 0 :::22 :::* LISTEN
    tcp 0 0 ::1:631 :::* LISTEN
    tcp 0 0 :::111 :::* LISTEN

    Help from any of the linux experts in the group would be appreciated. I have not had any machines up and crunching for almost a year because of moving and remodeling my house. It is time to get started again.

    Is the manager you're using on the same machine or a remote client?

    I did some searching and found someone who had same problem. This solved it for him.

    Try following http://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/Installing_BOINC_on_Fedora first. Make sure you've allowed BOINC through whatever firewall setup you have.

    doh! I should have thought of that. I forget that some distros have their firewalls enabled by default.
