I (and I'm sure other 980x owners) would really appreciate it if you could convince asus to get us a bios that supports the i7 980x without throttling. I'm currently running the latest 0901 revision and it seems to throttle any time I get to around 4.4ghz with a multiplier higher than 27-28. Thanks in advance!
Has anyone else besides me experienced throttling with the 980X on this board with 0901? This is absolutely outrageous that we require a special bios just to push the limits. I've been buying Asus motherboards for years and it's always been known as an overclocking enthusiast motherboard manufacturer. I guess I will have to take my business to evga or gigabyte next time around. I'll post up some screenshots of proof when I get home, but I think this is totally absurd. Honestly, what's the point of buying a 1k chip with an unlocked multiplier if I can't even use it past 26x without some sort of throttling?
Not that board but it sure throttles on the P6T vanilla, almost took it back but made a cruncher out of it instead.

Nice vid, saves me the time of posting up some proof.
I really hope Asus does something about this. Otherwise, I'm probably going to sell this board and get a classified. Trying to push it to 4.7 and I'm stuck at 4.6 because of the stupid multipliers. Are there any other alternatives besides a classified that doesn't throttle in the same mobo class?
I am not buying anymore Asus boards for this reason, had trouble with my first P6T throttling with the i7-920, by time they got a bios that fixed it the thing is damn near obsolete. I thought it might be different with the 980 and just maybe I wouldn't have any problems so I picked up another board while at microcenter. You can believe one thing it wont happen again...![]()

is the throttling temperature bound? if so, at which temp is it enforced? thks!

i see... that's odd. on other thoughts, couldn't it be wattage related? i've been seeing some screens of people who's 980x throttle at even lower speeds (4.250GHz+) -but with greater vcore, due too weaker batchs-...
so, and i'm taking a huge guess here, maybe the board has its own power limit for cpu power, and the 980x is too power hungry for the P6T series....
remind you: there's no concrete proof of this; this is just me trying a long shot.
really hope im wrong though...

My i7 920 D0 throttles just over 197 bclk. Im runing it on watercooling so the temps are ok like tryed at 200x21 and LinX fails every time but the temps are max 68 (25 ambiant). Crazy MB honest, should have bought something else![]()

Since what oficial bios version can we run one Xeon processor on the P6T Deluxe V2?
And why isn't the Xeon cpu's officially supported by the P6T Deluxe v2?
And what cpu would you choose for OC in a P6T Deluxe v2: W3520 or one i7 930?
Thanks.

If you don't want to run into throttling issues, go with the 0006 bios. I do have to warn you that it is "unofficial" though...
Those throttling issues only occour with very high bclk right?
My goal is to achieve for a daylly base usage, 4200MHz stable!
At that OC I don't think throttling issues will occour.
