well... idk... a 8800gtx is still enough to play games at 1920x1080 and max details and aa today... so it was expensive but if you think of not having to upgrade for what, almost 3 years? thats pretty damn impressive and the per year cost is only around 200$...

oh and did anybody notice the latyest xbitlabs article?
they meassured power consumption of the latest cards in very high detail, slot, first 6pin, second 6pin or 8 pin, in idle, under gaming load, occt load and blue ray playback load... very interesting!
and in this article they hint towards the 400 series being very hot and power hungry.
in fact they say something along the lines of "it might take a while until nvidia cards are perf/watt competitive again"

xbitlabs is veeery picky when it comes to power consumption of cpus, boards and vgas...
this cant affect their 400 review for the better... and the fact that they went back to the bench and checked the power consumption of all current cards shows that this is going to be a major part of their 400 series article, power consumption...

I'll bet $50 that the NDA lift is at midnight GMT, 1:00 CET (which would make it 7 p.m. EST).

what? not really. not even close, lol. what games are you talking about? my 4850 struggles in quite a few games (1680x1050, max details, no aa) so there's no way a 8800gtx is enough to play @1080p, max details and aa.

I had a 8800 GTX on a Samsung T220P and let me see, I had problems playing grid in 1080p withouth AA... The GTX 280 was good, but not that good to be able to play almost everything the next three years :O

I dunno I play most games at highest details with SLI 8800GT, they have been nice to me for almost 3 years now..

It all depends on the requirements of Guild Wars 2 if i'll upgrade or not.

SLI 8800GT is quite a bit faster than a single 8800GTX though
Talking about 8800GTXs, mine just died in my secondary PC. Damned solder problem. Luckily I still have 1 month of warranty left. Since they don't produce the GTX anymore, I might actually get a free upgrade now. Nice!

From the ingame clips I've seen on GW2, it's basicaly just a upgrade of the old engine.

    It still looks very similar.

Probably not to alienate any people with older systems.

ATM i use a GTS 250 from Leadtek, V2 that is, a bit of OC. It's at around 8800GTX levels because of higher freq, even if mem bus is just 256. But at 1680/1050, with an I7 CPu at 4 Ghz, i still cannot max some games, like metro/crysis/stalker/BFBC2 etc..., not talking about 4x AA or some other delights.

Almost 3? How is that? They were released Q4 2007.

BTW, you are missleading by that. Most games != the latest games. I can't play all the games with a GTX295 oced...which is nearly 2x your system.

GTX 480 will be showed on these screens 2nite at PAX 6PM EST. I'm wondering if Nvidia use the GTX 480 to power these screens, that would be hilarious.

Is it only me that think there's something weird about the brackets? Poor 2nd GTX470, that card has to run hot as hell.

What's the point of that setup? 2 Fermi cards for Physx, while the 5870 renders the actual game?

We've picked up news from MSI regarding the latest implementation of Multi-GPU processing on the Big Bang Fuzion mainboard. Using the Lucid Hydra chipset, MSI was able to get two GeForce GTX 470 to run with a Radeon HD 5870 Lightning to complete 3DMark. More inside.
