ATI Hint at NO Price Drop

Reviewers have GTX 400 series cards and no doubt that within the community of them talk is happening on what we think of the models. It would come as no surprise to know that now ATI probably have a fair idea about how the GTX 400 series competes against their current line up of video cards.

Word floating about was that if need be a price drop would take place to combat the new cards from NVIDIA; as for a refresh one might be ready but we haven’t heard anything all that solid on that. For now ATI still need to get the Eyefinity6 model launched.

As far as a price drop goes though it seems ATI and its partners are comfortable with how the models sit and with stock becoming a non issue for the cards; they don’t have anything to worry about it seems.

The GTX 400 series has been plagued with issues but within only days we’ll know exactly how the two models perform. There’s no doubt that ATI have a fair idea of how the models perform against their current crop of cards though.

Add to that a top to bottom line-up of DirectX 11 graphics cards as well as cutting-edge features such as the immersive experience of ATI Eyefinity technology, and we are confident ATI Radeon graphics cards will continue to be the favorite choice of customers wanting the most advanced and efficient graphics products.

Ati 4870 hits. Nvidia forced to halve prices to unprofitable levels.

GTX 480 hits, Ati goes 'meh'. Doesn't bat eyelid

Not unexpected. There may be no real incentive to drop prices. We'll soon see.

Do not be surprised if AMD increase prices of HD 5870 & HD 5850

What? That would only be sensible if the 4xx cards are underwhelming...

I wouldn't expect them to with froogle (google product search) showing Zipzoomfly having listed:

    GTX 470 $450
    GTX 470 $550

ZZF has been spot on last 3-4 launches with the prices too.
    HTPC - AMD Phenom II 555 Unlocked(4cores) - 4GB Gskill - AMD HD 5850 - Avermedia Duet - Harman Kardon avr247 - Surround Sound (Infinity Beta 50's, 10's, 360, and ed a2-300) - Samsung 46"

Desktop Powerhouse PC - Gathering dust due to high usage of HTPC as general pc now

Yeah.. I don't see ATI lowering the price on their 5850/5870 anytime soon.

Yeah a price drop looks unlikely, but OTH implying a price increase... the 5800s are already selling above initial MSRP -.-

Oh, they better not. Otherwise a lot of people might jump on GTX4x0 instead...

Doubt they'll have a price increase.... the cards are already above MSRP.

This is odd, might be the first time a card STAYS over MSRP after 6 months on the market... bizzarro world but if the Google prices are correct, then at $450/$500, a 5870 (which seems to beat a 470) at $400 means there's no reason for the price to go down AT ALL!

Bad news for those looking for bargains.

OTOH wasn't Shane baxtor the guy who claimed MSRP of the GTX 470 was to be $299? Maybe he'll be wrong about this too!

lol im about to get a loan to move out to my own place (18 and own flat im so excited) but might have to be like and wack on a couple hundred extra now =( was hoping for big price drop...

but to be honest it's no surprise everyone.. we all expected it! the example in first post is bad...

4870 was cheaper and just as fast...
5870 is cheaper and is just as fast... so it's the same apart from nvidia not dropping prices

    Awwww, and I wanted a pair of 5850s @ £180 each, or a 5970 @ £475.

    *Cries* .

Well, I could get a third 5770 if I decide to buy the Rampage III ... but trifire sucks, as do the new V3 5770s.

I suppose that is ATIs alternative. 1-2 5800s too expensive? Feel free to buy 2-3 5770s instead. But I cant get another 5770 as good as my custom cooled V1s are.

I sign to that (even I am still at secondary grammar school)

Although it's sad rather than funny

Looks like they go for the total opposite of strategy this time and they probably measure which result seems a better move as Fermi wasn't that spectacular like it looks like atm and 4x00 vs GT200 and 5800 vs Fermi seems somewhat comparable. At least I'd take the opportunity to do some analyzis of this (not like they wouldn't regularly analyze statistics but this time it seems more comparable).

Not necessarily As long as ATI are still working on new products, all is well.
