i guess it's their strategy in getting more market share by competing with high performance chips at a reasonable price.

i think the most shocking thing is how long the socket has survived. i had a duel core 2.6ghz (5000BE) and now can get a 3.6ghz turbo'd hex core. with the same ram/mobo i bought nearly 3 years ago. (pending bios update). i really dont think i will even need to get one right away, my quad is still feeling really strong, and if i just wait for the last chip to be made for this socket (not sure if its the 1090T or if we see a stronger one). but once i do go hex, will i even need to touch the cpu/mobo for another 3 years? seriously i think gaming will be happy with high speed 6 cores for as long as dx11 is alive.

Intel and AMD have both recently updated their desktop processor lineups and will launch several new CPUs including six-core and low- voltage processors, according to sources from motherboard makers.

Intel will soon launch its 32nm high-end dual-core Core i5-680 with price of US$284 and will replace the existing Core i5-670; and 45nm low-voltage Core i7-870s with a price of US$560 and a power consumption of 82W, the sources said.

AMD will launch several six-core Phenom II processors in the second quarter including X6 1035T (2.6GHz/95W), X6 1055T (2.8GHz/95W) and X6 1075T (3.0GHz/125W), according to the sources. In the third quarter, AMD will add a few more six-core processors including X6 1095T.

For the quad-core X4 900 series, AMD will launch X4 940T and the 95W version of X4 955 processors in the second quarter, the sources added.

For the company's Athlon II family, AMD will add X4 640 and X4 645 to its X4 600 series with 95W power consumption in the second and the fourth quarter respectively, the sources said.

The company will add to the Athlon II X4 600e family the X4 610e in the second quarter and the X4 615e in the third quarter. The X4 600 series features a TDP of only 45W, the sources said. For the triple-core X3 400 and 400e series, AMD will add X3 445 and X3 415e processors in the second quarter, and X3 450 and X3 420e in the fourth quarter.

For the dual-core Athlon II X2 200 series, AMD will launch a new 65W X2 260 processor and will launch two new low voltage CPU families - the dual-core X2 200u series that has a TDP of only 25W and the single-core Athlon II 100u series, the sources said.

In the second quarter, AMD will launch Sempron 145 to replace the existing Sempron 140, the sources added.

Intel and AMD have said that they do not comment on unannounced products.

Nah.... 32 bit, lower end X6 ... don't put much weight into this.... looks more like a really screwed up bench to me, and the voltages looks screwy too high to me. The CPUIDs are obviously idling down per C&Q, but the voltage is oddly high ... can't be right.

It is believed AMD BullDozer is going to be AM3 compatible....just imagine if you have an AM3 board now

It's a good thing AMD learned from their Socket 939 to Socket AM2 debacle. Quite a few users were put off by the short lifespan of 939. Not many people around here care about a 2 to 3 year socket lifespan anyhow, we usually upgrade within 6 months to a year!

I'm looking forward to a top end hex core for my AM3 board. Should give me two more years with my current board; unless someone brings out a dual socket AM3 board, then I'd have to upgrade to duals.

BTW...does anyone know where to get a good die shot image of a X6 for a desktop background?

As quoted by LowRun......"So, we are one week past AMD's worst case scenario for BD's availability but they don't feel like communicating about the delay, I suppose AMD must be removed from the reliable sources list for AMD's products launch dates"
