Euhmm... Just tried something else. I looked at the file size from the BIOS rom where I saved it and it's 1.94 Mb and it should 2 Mb.

I deleted it and opened my mail program and saved the file again and you know what? - It's 2Mb so the rom file is complete now.

Let's see what ASUS EZ Flash II has to say now.

    Edit:

ROM ID in the file is incompatible with existing BIOS!

    No luck.

If someone wants to have a look a this BIOS to compare it with the ASUS Rampage Extreme BIOS 1202, you can download it here.

    http://dl.dropbox.com/u/525714/Rampa...treme-0002.rom

Why call this revision 0002 when it isn't made for the ASUS Rampage Formula is something I don't understand or you should flash it with AFUDOS ES.

i checked the Bios you provided and compared it to the Extreme Bios 1202 and the Formula Bioses 0902 and 0803 with AMIBCP...

When you compare the BIOS Tag (under BIOS features) which shows "A1050000" for the new Bios 0002 and the Extreme Bios 1202, whereelse it shows "A0948000" for both of the Formula BIOS it is clear, that they worked on the wrong BIOS
    Core i7 4770K/ ASRock Z87M OC Formula / MO-RA3 / Gainward GTX570 GS/GLH / 2x4GB Corsair Vengeance @2400 / 120GB OCZ Vertex-3 Max-IOPS + 2TB Seagate SATA3 / Corsair AX760i

Sadly this does not seems to be bios for Formula... sigh! not sure where they did get versioning and build date.... Extreme bioses are in 12xx versions. Asus have again some mess to clean up.

Extreme also got zero support for quads mate, 500FSB is very very tricky to get stable... might give this 0002 a go on my REX
Question : Why do some overclockers switch into d*ckmode when money is involved

Remark : They call me Pro Asus Saaya yupp, I agree

Give it a try on your REX. It's the easiest way to find out if it's build for updating the Rampage Formula board or if it's the biggest screw up by ASUS.

You can always recover with your second BIOS and for us it's RMA time.

I already asked them why they've send me this BIOS if I can't use it on my board so it's waiting on a reply from them.

I don't think it's a mistake that they worked on the ASUS Rampage Extreme BIOS because of the revision number. Maybe they need it to build a new ASUS Rampage Formula BIOS to add the BIOS features.

They only mistake is probably communication and the ASUS Tech Support has send me a BIOS that isn't ready to be released but didn't know that. That could explain the 0002 revision as you would expect at least a revision 0100 or final version.

Already found one difference between Bios 0002 and BIOS 1202.

This is what we were looking for. They added the tREF timings.

You can adjust tREF up to 16120T.

If its for Formula However not sure, didnt read much about DDR3, but i think they are using much lower TREF values.

There's probably more if you compare both BIOS roms you notice that the numbers before Extreme Tweaker menu and before the Tools menu is also different in AMIBCP.

Hey Fritz that looks really good.

But why didn't you wait for the ASUS Rampage Extreme III?

    The last is 2009/05/04

Ok guys I'm in possession of a mod BIOS with the ASUS Rampage Formula Bootblock.

I'm not sure if I'm allowed to share it. I'm waiting on confirmation. Don't ask me why the one who made it doesn't post it in the thread or who he is. I don't know it and I'm not going to ask it because he might have good reassons not to do it.

There has been alot of work done to mod the BIOS and if it fails you should be able to recover like with other official ASUS Rampage Formula BIOS.

I would like to try it but if I run in to trouble and can't recover there's no way ASUS is going to let me RMA my board because of a bad flash because they are clever enough to know that I tried to flash it with the BIOS they said not to do it.

    @SoLoR

PM me and I share it with you so you can have a look. It's patched for DDR2 from BIOS 0902.

They dont check (at least they didnt in my case), what bios you flashed, however you dont have mobo for couple of weeks and you need to cover mail expenses (maybe this was the reason i need to cover mail expenses, because they figured out i moded bios, however they didnt say anything)

And ye sure, send it to me... doubt ill try to flash it, before someone else confirms its working tho i didnt have mobo for few weeks half of year ago, dont want to use crappy laptop again for few weeks

I've load the mod BIOS with ASUS EZ Flash II and it still gives me the ROM ID in the file is incompatible with existing BIOS! error so we would still need AFUDOSES to flash it and if it doesn't work probably need a SPI BIOS recover cable to flash it back to an original ASUS Rampage Formula BIOS.

It would be the ultimate BIOS for our Rampage Formula if ASUS also fixed the FSB >450MHz problem in that BIOS. It would have all the features we need to tweak the hell out of that board.

so the BIOS Tag is still "A1050000"? Maybe the guy who moded the Bios can fix this, so that it is recognized as Formula-Bios.

Thing is, this could be fixed but you would also need to fix checksums. This is just VERY risky job and recepie for disaster, unless you can flash over SPI.

Also other thing is, Rampage Formula and Extreme are basicaly identical motherboards, except one is for DDR3 and have dual bios feature and other is for DDR2 and without, there shouldnt really be any reason why we couldnt have Extreme bios features on Formula, except if Asus does not wont us to have them...

Yes, it has and maybe it can be fixed. Maybe I can tell you some more next week if it works or not.

Totally agree with that. They've got the code and know how to do it but do they want that?

That's the question I hope to recieve an answer from them because I don't see the point in making this 0002 BIOS unless they wan't us to mod it so it can work on our board.

I've been comparing the mod BIOS with MMTool against the original 0002 BIOS and the ASUS Rampage Formula BIOS and I've got to say that the mod BIOS is a really nice build.

There's only one thing that stops me from flashing it and that is that it can't be flashed with ASUS EZ Flash II. It throws an error if you try to load it to flash your board. It gives me Boot block in file is not valid!

To risky to flash it I think so I hope this can be fixed.

Sorry I gave you wrong information. The BIOS Tag is changed and it contains everything from the ASUS Rampage Formula 0902 BIOS.

They better hurry up because there is an upcoming overclocking competition in my country and I want to participate with higher bench stable fsb frequencies.
