"Tri-Core: Do More than Dual Core"

Now that's catchy. What, did they have an engineer come up with that one?
Particle's First Rule of Online Technical Discussion:
As a thread about any computer related subject has its length approach infinity, the likelihood and inevitability of a poorly constructed AMD vs. Intel fight also exponentially increases.

    Rule 1A:
Likewise, the frequency of a car pseudoanalogy to explain a technical concept increases with thread length. This will make many people chuckle, as computer people are rarely knowledgeable about vehicular mechanics.

    Rule 2:
When confronted with a post that is contrary to what a poster likes, believes, or most often wants to be correct, the poster will pick out only minor details that are largely irrelevant in an attempt to shut out the conflicting idea. The core of the post will be left alone since it isn't easy to contradict what the person is actually saying.

    Rule 2A:
When a poster cannot properly refute a post they do not like (as described above), the poster will most likely invent fictitious counter-points and/or begin to attack the other's credibility in feeble ways that are dramatic but irrelevant. Do not underestimate this tactic, as in the online world this will sway many observers. Do not forget: Correctness is decided only by what is said last, the most loudly, or with greatest repetition.

    Rule 3:
When it comes to computer news, 70% of Internet rumors are outright fabricated, 20% are inaccurate enough to simply be discarded, and about 10% are based in reality. Grains of salt--become familiar with them.

Remember: When debating online, everyone else is ALWAYS wrong if they do not agree with you!

    Random Tip o' the Whatever
You just can't win. If your product offers feature A instead of B, people will moan how A is stupid and it didn't offer B. If your product offers B instead of A, they'll likewise complain and rant about how anyone's retarded cousin could figure out A is what the market wants.

If I recall correctly, Intel launched the original Core 2 Duos with the following tagline: "Dual Core. Do More." So this here appers to be some sort of pun, i believe.

I'm in the same boat as you Mech. I cannot wait, will be my last pc upgrade for a long time.

All depends on price to performance though, compared to my current 940

there are no 140W thuban's don't always believe the fud. btw those slides are 3 months old, but i guess now they are cut paste by some people from the nda docs, that is also the reason why there is no actual speed on the docs, since it wasn't there only on recent slides it is available.

I'm now left wondering why Cache difference is so small between 4 core and 6 core phenom.

maybe this is part of the strategy to keep it @ 125W

Not sure about their marketing... But I like the product line-up numbers used. Quite simple, and makes sense.

    Add 2 x L1 + L2 to a quad-core. L3 remains the same I guess.

Would like to see the clock speeds, most likely the highest one would be clocked at 2.8Ghz at 125W for now. Would want a 3Ghz Black Edition, though that will have to wait for a while.

If what JF said is true then Thuban is Rev. Ex because of silicon changes.

    L1:128kb x2=256kb
    L2:512kb x2=1024

The picture says there is only 1024kb difference (9mb vs 8mb),
guess they skipped the L1 count or broke their calculator

They never count L1 anymore. They used to on older generation a64 boxes though.

Yes, they skipped the L1 cache. And X4 900T processors are actually X6 1000T processors with 2 disabled cores (L3 remain unaffected), I suppose.

Ya i think in X4 900T the T stands for Thuban.

Maybe its a clue for the ppl that you maybe able to unlock this in to 6 cores.

So if I am understanding this correctly, Thuban will perform the same as Denab clock for clock but has the advantage of 2 more threads (as well as being on a smaller process I take ) Also has there been any word on potential price points thus far? ( I haven't been keeping up to this )

Thuban will be 45nm and its the same thing as i7 920 vs i7 980x other than that.

Thuban and Deneb are different architectures but Thuban does have similarities to it.
Gulftown and Bloomfield are different architectures but Gulftown does have similarities to it.

For your application and core question just look at any i7 980x review the applications where it performs much better than the i7 quad at same clock is where the added cores are being used it will a similar case for Thuban.
