    My rig:

    QX9650 @ 4.6
    4gb of ddr2 OCZ ram @ 1150mhz
    EP45-DQ6
    Auzentech Prelude
    4x X25-E in R0 on LSI 9211
    750gb WD for storage
    ATI 5870
    A very light windows xp x64
    Everything I do not need is disabled in BIOS.
    Latency is at 14us @ the median point.

    My friend's rig ("aintz" on this forum):

    E6700 ES @ 3.0
    Asus P5W DH Deluxe
    4870
    4gb of crap ram
    2x 74gb raptors in R0
    Full version of windows 7 ultimate
    No tweaks, no disabling things in bios, no nothing. Standard rig.
    Latency very similar to mine.

    edit: Napalm has a pretty similar rig to mine. I bet if he runs it he will also see low latency.

    Hmmm, so your friend is using an Asus board and does get good latencies. Proves my theory wrong. Kind of weird though. I'm running a pretty similar rig as you:

    QX9650 @ 4.6 -> Q9650 @ 4050mhz
    4gb of ddr2 OCZ ram @ 1150mhz -> 4gb of ddr2 Kingston Ram @ 1082mhz
    EP45-DQ6 -> Maximus II Formula, same p45 chipset
    Auzentech Prelude -> Onboard
    4x X25-E in R0 on LSI 9211 -> 80gb X25-M on ICH10R in AHCI mode
    750gb WD for storage -> Nothing for storage atm (just got rid of my 500gb HDD, getting a 1TB F3 tomorrow)
    ATI 5870 -> ATI HD5870
    A very light windows xp x64 -> Tweaked Windows 7 x64
    Everything I do not need is disabled in BIOS. -> Same here, disabled the marvell (or was it micron?) HDD controller, disabled firewire
    Latency is at 14us @ the median point. -> Over 100us latency

    Hmmm, maybe :banana::banana::banana::banana: improves the latency? I don't have any storage at the moment, so I'm :banana::banana::banana::banana:less at the moment Streaming :banana::banana::banana::banana: does an OK job at the moment

    Edit: AMAZING latency though!

    There we go, I knew more people had low latencies. My gut feeling is still saying "board" right now.

    Well, as soon as I get some more money, I'm moving to an i7 platform on a gigabyte board. Just bought 2 more x25-m 80gb which will join my single one in raid0, and the 1TB drive, so it's going to take a while

    My friend has an i7 with a Gigabyte board. 100-110 us latency.

    I've got two brothers. One is using a Asus X48 board (Bios modded to the Rampage Formula) and one of them is using a nVidia 680i board. I'll ask them if they could run the latency checker for me. I'll report back with the results.

    Argh, this is driving me crazy. Why is there one group getting 20ish latency, and another group getting 100+? As far as I know, there's no correlation between specs and latency. There must be something...

    Need two people with an exact same board to run the test

    Come on Napalm, you have an EP45 I think. Sign in to check XS already

    Yeah, great idea. Would be interesting to see if there's a difference.

    Damn you! Thanks for shattering my dreams Which gigabyte board is he using though? I would prolly go with a X58A-UD5 as soon as funds allow

    Dang, thats low.

    @ Musho This is not about hardware it's about drivers. That is what it is checking. If someone has the same hardware but is using a different driver the results could be very different.

    I've tried disabling hardware one bit at a time and nothing changed. Maybe it's a combination of drivers.

    I might just try a fresh install and load hardware one bit at a time until I find out what's slowing things down.

    What if some hardware just has badly coded drivers?

    If you're doing that, please report back! I have 2x X25-M 80gb on the way, which will join my single one this Monday in raid0. I will do a fresh install, and will run the latency checker the moment I hit the desktop. If it's still high, hardware does have an effect

    What?

    L2 latency is a few ns. One nanosecond (ns) is 1000 times less than one microsecond (μs).

    80μs is like 40,000 times more than the latency of L2 cache. 80μs is the latency of current SSDs.

    More than likely.

    I found a few more tools but they don't help me. PCI Latency Tool 3.1 v2 lets you set the latency priority on the pci bus, but only if you are running xp.

    CEntrance ASIO Latency Test Utility for audio set up.

    I don't know if this could possibly related, but I'm still getting GSODs with my 5870, despite the driver fixes. Could the GSODs be caused by timeouts, because of the high latency? I know there are more people who are still experiencing GSODs, so maybe they should run this tool and see if they all have high latencies? We don't even know what this all really means, but I'm quite obsessed with these latencies at the moment.

    Here's what I get on my classy e760 at 210x21 and memory at 1680 7-7-7-24. This is with stripped down 7 at an idle desktop. Task manager shows 34 running processes (including the intel raid, ati, and creative processes).
