    Uh, what?

First of all, you can't prove die size off IHS - and besides, the IHS doesn't seem as large as GT200 but let's put it closer to inspection:

    GTX 280

    GTX 480

So no, they're actually pretty close in IHS. Somewhere between GT200 and GT200b is my bet - ~500mm^2

According to information from board partners circles the GTX 480 could be less than 512 shaders cores exhibit.
    Hmmm

They also show the IHS is about 4.2 cm across

I'm not photoshop expert, and this is NOT going to be an exact representation (due to the differing angles of the cards, etc. there will be skewed results) but I cooked this up for those wondering about IHS comparisons between GTX280 and GTX480 and it's worth some talkin:

Probably for the low-end GT315 type chips that are available to OEMs right now.

You can't tell that from a picture. But the Geforce 480 will have 512 Shader Cores.

Its really about time Nvidia did that, will also save them some money I bet.

I am starting to think I will really get to see Fermi in person at PAX later this month, It will be nice to have a two player field again in PC graphics.
Ironically if they had kept the NV I/O chip it would have been much easier to change it for a newer version allowing 3+ display outputs without having to redesign the GPU. In a way it had its benefits.

I don't think this is certain, like I said before someone who has been giving me reliable info (I don't call it a 'source' anymore, it makes me look like I'm trying to look like a journalist or a spy ) , after insisting that it would be 512sp for weeks, said that it was recently decided that the top part would be 480SP at launch.

And if you look carefully, some other people have been pointing to 480SP recently.

    hmmm... the gtx 470 has 1536MB VRAM. maybe it has a 192 bit bus with 24 rop's, 32 tmu's and 256sp's with g92 clocks?

or maybe that was a typo. one side says 1280MB and one side says 1536MB.

    lol, WTF indeed ?

a huge typo in the front of the box is unlikely, so its def 320bit and 1280mb.
