ALL 550's are suppose to be blackEditions regardless of stepping Tray and Box per AMD Specs..The difference between 550 and 555 is only the 100mhz freqency.. C2/C3....
The link @ the egg is for a 550 Tray (C3)Per AMD its supose to be BlackEdtion C3 with no Cooler..They do not make any more C2 550's only C3 steppings now...
a Tray CPU is Not a Purple PIB in a BoX Box.
Also 555 is not the same as the 550 BE It has a 100mhz set higher Multi.
Also 955 went from C2/C3... Its still a BE not locked..
@ AMD shows the OEM Tray as a Black Edition...So i presume that means Still unlocked....
Any one else Know about 550's being Locked with C3 stepping ..
Dosnt make sense to Lock the 550 due to new stepping . If a C2 fails and they send a C3 550 ,,then your saying it would be locked ...then people will get mad..see where im going...Lol

The box is actually a dead giveaway.
Purple for locked cpu's and Black for BE/unlocked.
It's actually not a bad thing as if you have a good mobo you can probably smack around a few unlocked c2 chips on ln2

Fry's had 550 BE C2 @ $68bucks over the weekend wow ....the 555 is really pushing the old 550 prices low.
There site had listing for 555 or 550 ..now none ...bummer.

I'd imagine my 965 doing good in an LN2 setup, the NB does great on lowish volts and the CPU is a volt-eater...only scales with volts,volts, and more volts...not saying -180c temps wont help. XD
