Anybody have any comparison results to old WB's? I'm thinking about switching over from a DTek FuzionV2.

Just picked up one of these blocks and ran across this thread. I noticed several layed over pins on my backplate. This thread has way too many pages for me to read through right now, but I know Gabe frequents this forum so maybe I can get an answer quicker then searching through all the mumbo jumbo. Is there anyway to get a new copper plate for the XT? I don't like the way the pins have just a mashed look in places. It doesn't seem as it would properly function. Also I needed to take it apart to take the two silver pieces in for powdercoating since nothing in my build is silver.

The reversible plate on the top to allow compression fittings to be installed if reversed has allen head screws smaller then anything I have here at the house and there wasn't any allen tools in the sealed box. Am I missing something or does the waterblock not come with the tools to take it apart? Which would seem rather strange to me since the plate is designed to be reversed on top.

This is my first water rig so maybe these things are of the norm. I will check further into the mass amount of posts when I have more time.

    Oh one other question:

Do the GTZ and XT both use the same hold down screws and springs? I have various parts from both blocks that are going to the powdercoater (Actually the GTZ parts are there already or I wouldn't be asking) Since the main block of the XT is much different in material and color then the GTZ my color scheme has changed a bit on them. I was having the hold down screws and springs powdered one color for the GTZ, but considering the color of the XT I'm going to have to do its a bit different so they look (at least I think it will) ok with the central block color.

My question is if I like the way the GTZ hold downs turn out with the XT can I use the hold down screws and springs with the XT from the GTZ and the XT hold downs with the GTZ? I don't plan on making any more trips up to where my case is being done until early next week to pick it up. So......

You don't own a set of allen wrenches? You can pick up a set for like $3 any most hardware stores.

Most of the plates have a few bent pins. It is just a by product of the manufacturing process. They won't affect performance at all though.

Gabe has stated earlier in the thread, if the block passed QC (in this case it did) the bent pins will not hinder performance.

I have allen wrenches. I don't have anything small enough to remove the minature ones on the top most plate.

You could always machine a block of your own on a new and very small process and see if you don't have problems until it's matured enough.

If it bothers you that much, sell it buy a heatkiller.

I have the apogee xt but not 100% which way to mount it

It says the 3 screws must be in-line with the cpu retention bracket, although my gigabyte board has the retention bracket on the site rather than below? so do i mount it sideways rather than having the 3 screws parallel to my desk?

By mounting it with the three screws facing the retention lever, you ensure that the flow more evenly spreads across all the cores if the inlet is still in the center. It wont do any harm to mount it with the screws not facing the lever, but you will not get the best performance (could be off by as much as several degrees from what I've read) and that defeats the premium price you might have paid for your new block. I'd also toss out the idea that if you're using compression fittings and have moved the inlet out of center, then it might not matter which why you mount it. Somebody here will have to test that theory to see how accurate it is. I'm using indigo Extreme and wont be remounting mounting mine just for testing. ^_^

I bought the XT a little over a week ago. It keeps my i920 at a cool 25º C Idle and none of the cores goes over 47º C using Prime95 for an hour. This is much more than I was expecting considering I'm using an old Black Ice Extreme III to cool it.

Prime95 ... you use OCCT (Small Data Set setting) or CoreDemage

What algorithm do you think OCCT uses? Prime95 is still my preferred CPU load testing app.

Skinnee, I am not refering to the stability of the system .... I am refering to heat the processor. I did these tests in IDLE:

    My LOOP: 1.05 GPM
    GT240 Stealth + Tsunami_res + MCP655™@12V + CPU Home made + NB Home made + HDD Home made

    Room Temp: 28°C
    Water Temp: 29°C

    IDLE:
    OCCT: 42°C
    Prime95: 43°C
    BurnInTest: 43°C
    IntelBurnTest: 46°C
    CoreDemage: 48°C

I think the load testing debate is one of those that will always remain a hot button. And I knew I shouldn't have opened that can of worms, but just kept my comments to myself and clicked the back button.

With Prime95 my CPU temps dont get nearly as high as with OCCT. Its a good 7-9 degrees difference. This on a TRUE.

Kinda funny that this is an extreme PC cooling forum, and we are discussing how to really overheat the primary componet that we put such a strong focus on for said cooling.
