how cheap is "really cheap"? just curious what u could manage to get one of these sexy chips for

thats the new stepping one with lower voltage requirements.. i bet it will overclock easily over 4ghz.. maybe even to like 4.2

Right guys .......... Some good news, and bad news ..
recived the cpu today .. seems to work great at stock ....

but stock voltage it sets its self is ....
1.55volts (max3) boots up not very stable.
so I had to increase my core voltage up 1 notch ... to 1.57v and works flawlesly

So I decided to do some fun, with the cpu.
so i turn the voltage up to 1.675v and upped the fsb to make it 4.2ghz (nice round number) rebooted .. and Beeped it posted and started going into windows, on my desktop it crashed, before it did, i looked at the temp and it was on 67c :o

so I rebooted, and on stock volts (1.57) and started to mess about with FSB, eventually i got 3915.9mhz nearly 4 gig.

So i aimed for 4 gig, and it wouldnt have it ... temps would increase 2 quick and wasnt stable for more then ..... 30 mins.

atm my temps are 44@idle and 55@ full load ...
iam using an slk with an 80 mm fan running at 3000rpm, (near silent)

I think my cooling is an issue here.

    here my screen shot

before i plugged it in, and noticed that the cpu had 30 caps.
    ( those little blocks)

I got it for 300$ which i think is very resonable as ..... they are selling for £300.00 pounds in the uk

i think the problem is my o/s being bad instlation.
(also reseated h/f) Iam using generic compound,
i need to buy arctic silver

Im running at stock volatge atm, and running at stock cpu speed
and seems to be doing cpu bench mark in SiSoft perfectly fine.
beeing ruuing as a high task job for 2 hours.

    Prescott = 90nm & 1mb,

Good thing I didn't rush out & grab one of those suckers, glad I got my lil 'ol 3Ghz chip.

    Quite happy at 4.17Ghz atm...
Got 3.75Ghz (250fsb 1:1) with the stock cooler (with 1 broken fan blade)....Prime95 stable & all the usual benching OCing tests passed....

/me wonders what one of them would've done with me Vapo PE...

Skate2snow is right, that could be a failed prescott core, because of the low vcore. interesting... that's why it's running so hot at 67c!

If that's directed at me, it has been a while since I had it aircooled...

    15x250fsb @ 1.575v (reported as 1.55v under load as reported by MBM5, Cpu-Z etc)..

Temps were 40c something idle, 58c under load iirc...

Gotta dig into my hdd to see if I still got some screenies of me benchmarking etc w/ the stock cooler...

Kanavit, if failed Prescott core....Why 130nm Wouldn't it be 90nm???

ibby, can ya post a screenie of Cpu-Z to show us what sized die it's based on...

    I could've sworn NW 800fsb "C" CPU were all 130nm (0.13nm) & the "Prescott's" were all 90nm (0.09nm)....

i ran out yesterday, and i am using standard compound.

    it says 0.13

but my BIOS doesnt give me a setting to lower the voltage .. why is that ? lowest voltage i can select is 1.55v
    (abit max 3)

Silly me missed it altogether.....Unless Cpu-Z has a bug with "failed" Prescott cores, this is a geniune NW 130nm...

Must be that the default vcore on those power hungry things are 1.55v even though the S-Spec says 1.25v-1.4v...

First thing I did with the stock cooler was rip off that themral pad & put some AS Ceramique in it's place. Definitely get yourself some more AS 5 or Ceramique...

A better cooler would definitely be the way to go mate. Thermalright SP94 + Delta 92mm fan rules for aircooling anyways...

This is not a failed prescott, but this is the brand new stepping that was supposed to lower temps and up the clocks. I think the owner needs to go out and buy a regular HSF combo and some as5 so we can see what these things are capable of.

Just a shot in the dark, but what bios ver. are you using.
Bios 1.3 and below don't support the 3.4C, 3.4EE or the prescotts you need to have bios 1.4 or 1.5 to get the right voltages.
