"D3s, D3 and D700 sensors were developed and designed by Nikon. D3X and APS-C were developed and designed by Sony."

Of course all of them are made by Sony, but I think that there is quite a lot difference who developed and designed them.

Just compare D3(s) or D700 to rest..

Nikon is glass + software and HW development/design company.. they are just not manufacturing all stuff, pretty much as ATi-AMD.

I think we will see D4 and D4X.. Sony isn't only one whos making sensors and for second, if Nikon could design 12mpix for D3 (D700), I'm pretty sure, they can handle bigger ones.

I see. I misread or misunderstood what you meant. I know they play a big part in the design aspect of the sensor but Sony maintains full control of the process. Though Sony made the announcement they weren't going to let anyone else use their new 24mp sensor and just the other day in an interview Nikon said

This answer could have been a direct shot at Sony's announcement. So who knows... maybe D4 with a Nikon sensor? They could very well be leasing manufacturing space.

Wandering further and further off topic though.....
    Yes, upgrade to a 5D

Maybe Fuji sensor? They have some realtion too.. quite a lot in fact.

Upgrade to 5DMK2 from 7D.. I wouldn't do that.. not now. At least I would wait until PMA 2010. Not sure if they show something new or not... but theres quite a lot of possibility, that they can. If I imagine something like D700 just with bit more mpix and 100% viewfinder.. I would buy that in a minute. Its pretty much only thing that D700 lacks for me.

I wouldn't consider it a complete hijack, there were a lot of heated spec related details lol.

Plus the answer to the original post is an easy one. For portraits and landscapes the #1 Camera for Canon is the 1Ds Mark III, #2 is the 5D Mark II
I'd go with the 1Ds Mark II, 5D, 1D Mark IV, III, II before I'd even consider a 7D. Actually, if my focus was portrait landscape, I wouldn't even consider it.
