Well if it makes you feel better Hopefully 5750's in Xfire in a few days....

This will make CARDs (4 and 5) lol.... The first three were XFX , XFX, Sapphire5770's EGG coolers and all had same problem in several different Pc's.

So,, Today I managed to Order
(The Gold Glacier Heatsink Cooled) AsusEAH5750's ..

These are hard to find In Silicon valley and if they work out.. ill be happy..

Should stack up to the Other Brands with thier uber Duck (eggheater.
Overclocking software by Asus too...Not shure what the'll handle on volts or if thell clock good... But ive read pleanty that a lot of happy Pc,s with these ones inside.

    http://www.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=V02caADLqsFHytAd

I Like to OC and dont mind trying New cards out, especially know New tech.

I almost threw in the towel for the first time... I know these things are New and stuff is expected..So im giving them another go around .

    One last thought,,
...Even As single cards the 3800/4800 series wasnt crippled like this in the beginning.

,Ok , yes there were power play issues and blank screens,, but i held on lol and they are a thing of the past now.

Note: I have read as many post about bad cards as there are to good cards..
But i have yet to get a running card..

Hope these Next two humble me

    Ahhhnd ..AMD...im waiting,, knowing,,,,,

Somewhere in a dark ,dark, place,,one is making a Killie Furbie driver.

I ordered a XFX HD 5870 that I will soon recieve and I am a bit scare of all I see about the GSOD...

I see this problem all over the web since mid december and ATI haven't react yet, I also see people who have RMAed their card one or two times and still have the same issue...

The only reason I could think why ATI doesn't react is that this is not a driver bug but a conception problem of their 5xxx architecture. They maybe have sold hundred of their cards with that problem and if they tell it, they will have hundred of RMAed card.

I'm giving up and admiting defeat. RMA time.
I tried the 10.2. Made it all the way through vantage with default clocks and even played L4D2 for twenty minutes before crashing. from then on it seem to crash randomly in intense 3d apps. Can't say I see anything positive here. I think since I can still run it perfectly at 850/1250(remember this is the xxx version) I will just hang on to it until just prior to fermis release and then rma and sell it.

How about thousands or tens of thousands. Ati to date has sold 2,000,000+ of the 5xxx series cards.

Same here. I really don't know what to do. I bought the 5770 as stop gap because the 5870's were impossible to find. I had planned to buy 2x5870's for xfire when stock levels picked up, but I'm rethinking that now.

Trouble is, I have an AMD chipset (790FX), so if I go NV, it's 1 card only.

I really hope you are right... Cause I am not one of those people having 500$ each month for his hardware, if my card is not working fine I can't just throw it to the garbage in 2 month to buy me a new nVidia GT300. I will have to do with it for a year ... (moreover I have bought a nice EK Waterblock for it ^^)

I have the XFX HD5870 XXX and had a couple GSOD/Stripes lockouts. Lowered my CPU overclock and not happened since, this seems to be a solution?
I am getting strange artifacting on the screen during normal use though, even though ive downclocked the card slightly - anyone else have this?

Im no Mr smarty pants ,, But All line of cards have the Same Problems....

Not just a single 5750/5770 5850 5870 5950...Its every Old and New Version Made Has these Problems...

Do they all use the Same Ram NO,, Ive seen them with Hynix and Samsung ,, with same PRoblem..

I dout its all Bad ram on all these Cards,, could be Bad Bios Timing for what they are DOing.Who knows..

I remeber 4cards i had With the Grrrrrteen team,,I cant say the Nvname. 9800GTs/GTS suffered from Bad Ram.It was Qimonda.

    Bad Ram,,I dont think so..
Usually Will be Bad from the Get go and Unplayable( non recoverable)..

Now ovecled 5xxx it could be Overheated if its Clocked to High...I dout they Clocked It Too High Since the Chips are Rated For it On second hand the GPU's Do recover..If it was too much Heat with Bad Chips it wouldnt recover..
You would have a hard lock and eventually a dead card.(wont Boot)

I try to look for the unoviouse..
I dont even need the Two Cards im getting Deliverd ,
Im mearly trying to see if its how they are made...Or is it Really Driver ,,Bios Related..

    Three main things..
We all have read on of these three..

    Driver,

    ,Bios Voltages .

    and

Low2d/low3d limits setting in Power Play.

I dont like throwing my money around,
It should work from day one,,..With a few Driver Updates:expected

20years of tweaking now , i cant just give in AMD/ATi

I doubt its as simple as a driver fix, Pulling down clocks ~50mhz fixed my 4850 and 4870 cards with the same symptoms (almost to the letter) that most are reporting here.

I used to crash anywhere from 15 minutes - 2hrs into a game or get the stripes without fail, pulling down the clocks and I could leave things going all day come back and still happily churning away.

I tried every driver for almost a year and 32bit/64bit OS's XP/Vista all did the same things in the crashing respect. This was across 2x 4870's and 1x 4890.

My non-refrence design card that I got back from RMA (4870) hasn't hiccup'd once.

With what driver? I never ever had that once with my old Sapphire HD4870 1GB. Clocked too high it simply locked up, sometimes restoring itself, sometimes it locked up the entire system and i had to reboot manually.

With these 2x 5770's i even get the grey sreens when i oc the cpu too high, screen goes grey, system locks and reboots soon after.

I miss my trusty old 4870 that did 870/1170.

Pick your choice of driver from the past year or so, in either 32bit or 64bit flavor, across motherboards, processors, stock clocks on cpu and gpu (and overclocked), mem is as close to 100% stable as I care to try (almost 24hr memtest stable), tried with 2x2GB and 4x2GB and faster and slower Ram Speeds and so on.

I really spent more time trying to trouble shoot these things than I should have and I didn't realize anyone else was having the same problems (just came across these threads by chance now).

i experienced striped screens with too high cpu as well as gpu overclocks

10.1 solved the issue as cpu overclocks dont result in same stripey screens anymore, and i get my card now stable at 1000/1250. With 1000/1300 i get stripes too.

It seems to be an issue that occurs if ANY instability occurs, resulting in the driver hardlocking and giving the stripe screen.

Will be interesting trying out the hotfix tho....

    Hi all,

I have just recieved my XFX HD 5870 there is 3 days, so I'd like to share my experiece to maybe help people.

So far I haven't got any problems, I have runned several 3DMark Vantage bench mark and Unigine Heaven bechmark too. Then I have a played a couple of hours to Dirt 2 and Mass Effect 2 during my weekend (never more than 1 hour in a row).

    My configuration is :

    eVga P55 FTW + Core i7 860 oc @ 4.2 Ghz.
    8Gb (4x2Gb) of DDR3 Gskill Trident 2000Mhz.
    Intel SSD 80Gb Postville.
    XFX HD5870 watercooled.

My cpu overclocking is not rock stable, I can't do more than 15 min of Linx, so it don't seem an unstable config always cause trouble with HD 5870. But my system never crash, the only thing that give a error is Linx.

I have started on a clear Windows 7 x64 installation with Catalyst 10.1 driver. I was totally unable to install Catalyst 10.1 on my current system install, the setup was always crashing (maybe due to old nVidia driver, I was using my 8800 GT while waiting for my Radeon).

Once again my experience seem to put away eventual driver or bios problem, my card seem to just work fine out of the box. Maybe they have corrected something as mine is quite recent. Of course I have not tryed to oc it, I will leave it as it's for a couple of months.

I hope it will give some clues to the problem and that my card will stay stable lol.

The ATI Catalyst 10.1 release notes (published Wednesday) note the problem as a known issue; however, it's described as a problem affecting users of all versions of Windows and not just Windows 7.

Today Dave Erskine, an AMD spokesperson, informed us that, "only a small number of ATI Radeon HD 5800 series and ATI Radeon HD 5700 series cards are exhibiting the behavior," and that the team is closing in on a fix for the apparently software related issue.

"The team is testing a driver hotfix and initial tests indicate that it resolves the issue," Mr Erskine said. "We need to test it further but we expect to make the hotfix available shortly."

New cards=new problems (ati+NV).Give it a few months, will get sorted out.
Anyone experienced these problems on non-MS OS (Linux) ?
    9.12/HF never worked properly for me,beta 10.1 - no crossfire,9.11 was OK,
Official 10.1 seems OK for now, have not tested it much (yet).

    NV cards have "no problems"?
Maybe it's because the driver support for g92 has finally matured ?

I have been having the stripe crashing issues in MW2 a ton and I have a couple of questions... (cuz im a tard)

I use the CCC to boost my fan temps but now my clocks are 157/300 when not running games. I cannot alt+tab to check my clocks during game but is this a power saving feature? Or are my clocks staying like this?

I installed the newest drivers (assuming 10.1 not at home atm) and I downclocked my mem to 1150mhz from 1200mhz and have not had the crash again (knock on wood).

I am just concerned about the clocks its displaying and if I should RMA or wait for the hotfix? Im thinking RMA just to get rid of the bad card and hope to get one without these issues...

    Thanks for the help =)
    This is my sig.

anyone think they ati might have gotten a little nutty with trying to run low volts in powersaving mode and it possibly not switching in the voltage tables?

does this happen to anyone who has a waterblock on their card?

will it do this from a dead cold boot or does it have to be running for a while.

That's 100% normal, the card runs at reduced clocks when not utilized.

However, I was getting those stripe-lockup-screens whenever milkyway was running along with WCG (CPU DC app)
So I tried changing GPU clocks, different drivers etc but to no avail, same problem.
Then I increased CPU Vcore (don't ask me why lol) and voila, problem gone, I can now run MW and WCG 24/7 without problems. Weird thing is that I needed a rather huge increase, like 0,04V or so to make those stripe screns go away.

Again, without running MW@home I can run ANYTHING with 1,22V Vcore, prime, LinX, any game.
What can be derived from this is that maybe the 58xx cards are hypersensitive to CPU clocks, and will fail even though your overclock is technically stable. So try raising your Vcore I guess...
    Okay, Update:

Installed Cat 10.1 official (not hotfix) and lowered Vcore back down by 0,05V... playing Mass Effect 2 yesterday for hours, also ran WCG + Milkyway overnight, no stripe screens so far. Seems resolved for me
