WOW that is an awesome graph, looks great! it does show the difference is not too majopr form single to double disk raid very well, especially at low QD, i think what audienceofone is getting at is that raid 0 isnt a requirement for desktop usage to be fast, and he is right about that i would also like to see some comparison of access times there too as they seem to jump much higher per QD with the single solution. but really the raid 0 for ssd is only needed for hardcore ssd abusers

sidenote: tilts array needs a cleanup, i think it is degraded.

Comp, as you can see response times start to degrade with qd using a single ssd. CPU utilisation also goes up considerably with qd using a single ssd, which does not happen with hard raid.

When I monitor my qd it is mostly hovering around 1. To get higher qd's is actually hard with desktop usage. It the qd does go up is does not stay up for very long so faster speeds are only a fleeting benefit. (Batch files that automate multiple executions more or less simultaneously are only simulating an enterprise environment.)

I guess finally that with hard raid you get degradation and if Tilts results are anything to go by you would actually lose out quite quickly to a single ssd with trim. (At low qds)

What I learn is that whilst 2 ssd's in raid are no different at qd 1 to 3, 8 ssd's can in fact be a bit faster, which I had not considered. (Although at qd 1 you are only 2MB/s faster and your drives are fresh not degraded.)

Nice. Thanks. That shows around the same as I am finding. Was your raid array hard or soft?

It seems Tilts 7 x X25-M's are quite a bit slower at low qd's than Comps 8 x vertex on the same controller.
No hardware raid, the raid was created on my standard SATA ports of the GB-UD5.
As I usually don't install IMSM it was created in the raid-bios and so there is no WBC.

Tilt should learn how to HDDerase asap.
I've got all my utilities including HDDerase on an old USB memory stick, made it bootable (DOS), works very well.

Anyway, I don't believe in benching 6-8 drives anymore, one gets most of the iops from 2-4 drives. The rest is mostly sequential bandwidth.

I can't say I'm surprised at this graph. (still missing qd32 for single drive but it should be at 35-40')

Anyways, it only shows random read, a workstation pattern might give the 9211 the edge.

    iops_qd_single_vs_raid0_9211_x2_qd32.png

    update:
-added QD32 value for single Intel X25-M
    -new layout

Do you need to update the firmwares or just HDDerase the drives?

    Thanks audienceofone

(it should be very close to my G1 drives)

    Now, what if I add another G1 giving me 3x G1 raid-0 on the X58 ICH10R.
If you guys are interested I'll do it.

It would be nice to see comparison with the anandtech light and heavy io config

    Tiltevros,

I can assure you that it will be worth the job!
(unless there is something seriously wrong with your setup, and I don't think there is)

Can you create a new thread for this?
(I guess it will generate a few posts and they don't belong here and it might be helpfull for others)

It would be great to make an ioconfig from the read/ write patterns and then test it at each qd. That should give a good overall assessment.

It would be great to see your results on fresh drives. It looks like your performance at high qds' is not effected as badly as it is at lower qd's, but a retest should clear that up.

I haven't benched the G2's I have flashed to 02HD on the LSI controller yet so I'm not sure if it would affect performance.
    It could go both ways.

    I would do both.

    edit:
By updating the G2's to 02HD you don't need to use HDDerase everytime you feel for a cleanup.
In fact a format from a W7 running msahci would clear the drives. (W7 needs to be in TRIM mode, meaning no raid drivers installed on the ICH)

    edit2:

I misread or misunderstood your question ,
HDDerasing will work perfectly, no need to run the SSD Toolbox for an extra TRIM, if that was your question.

The random read test audiencofone linked, start with the small numbers 512B, 4KB,...

I'll update the chart as soon as you post the new benchmarks.

It should bring you to the top of the chart all the way.
