Cool Super Talent Announces Enterprise Class TeraDrive SSDs based on SandForce controller

    Source: http://www.supertalent.com/

San Jose, CaliforniaJanuary 21, 2010 – Super Talent Technology, a leading manufacturer of Flash storage solutions and DRAM memory modules, today announced a new line of TeraDrive SSDs designed specifically for high end enterprise and database server applications.

“Super Talent has a solid track record of developing leading edge SSDs. Their new TeraDrive series, incorporating SandForce technology, is an impressive advance in enterprise storage,” commented Thad Omura, VP Marketing at SandForce Inc.

The new TeraDrive FT2 is a SATA 3Gbps SSD based on the advanced new SandForce SF-1500 SSD processor. It delivers sequential read and write speeds up to 250MB/sec that will not degrade over time. It also supports blazing fast transaction speeds up to 30,000 IOPS, making it a formidable storage solution for database servers where random read and write speeds are critical.

The TeraDrive FT2 features RAISE™ technology for enhanced reliability and DuraWrite™ technology for significantly increased endurance, state-of-the-art wear leveling, bad block management, and excellent ECC with up to 24 symbols correctable per 512 byte sector. Set to revolutionize enterprise storage, the TeraDrive FT2 is available with either MLC or SLC NAND flash, and is offered in capacities from 50GB to 200GB.

    Part Number – Description

    FTM05F225H – 50GB 2.5“ MLC SATA TeraDrive FT2 SSD
    FTM10F225H – 100GB 2.5“ MLC SATA TeraDrive FT2 SSD
    FTM20F225H – 200GB 2.5“ MLC SATA TeraDrive FT2 SSD
    FTD05F225H – 50GB 2.5“ SLC SATA TeraDrive FT2 SSD
    FTD10F225H – 100GB 2.5“ SLC SATA TeraDrive FT2 SSD

According to Joe James, Director of Marketing at Super Talent, “We engineered the TeraDrive FT2 for optimum performance and reliability in server applications, especially where fast random access to small files is needed”. MLC and SLC TeraDrive SSDs are available to OEMs directly from Super Talent in sample quantities this month and in volume later in Q1/2010.
Damn, looks good, doesn't it? A review would be nice!

Sweet can't wait to see when these and similar ssds become more affordable! Have some clients of mine running mysql databases on 6x 147GB SAS 15K Raid 10 right now. Sandforce SSD would be nice alternative

It wouldn't be much of an improvement performance wise, just some faster communication with drive's cache. And I suppose Sata3 is more expensive.
It delivers sequential read and write speeds up to 250MB/sec

Does anyone know what process the SLC nand for the SLC flavor of these drives is made on? Is a 32nn SLC nand drive coming out yet?

so far as i know, sata3 has not been adopted by the enterprise market and probably won't be until it's standard on amd and intel southbridge chips. i would assume that adopting that standard for the enterprise market is a huge waste for the time being.

50GB huh. It's the moral equivalent of a short-stroked hard drive - take a 500GB platter and sell it as a super high speed 250GB drive by only using the fastest spinning half of the surface. Sounds like they're using 64GB flash modules and leaving 14 out of each 64GB for spares / rewrites. The price per GB on these things is going to be ugly...

That's the price for a a non-degradation over time design....

wow very nice! except for the naming scam!
-Also, don't expect any SLC in this new gen. Looks like all are facing towards new gen mlc chips...
