Amd needs a unlocked turbo boost feature. Call it BlackBOOST, where you could manage your own voltage and overclocks with hardware bios support. That would be pimp. I think its something that could compete very well with intel feature wise. I bet many people would love this, just to be able to overclock without damaging your hardware from 24/7 voltage abuse, and energy savings.

overdrive supports all of that (voltage adjusting depends on the MB), but u also have to take into account that most computers sold by the major oems dont have proper cooling and dont have proper pwms so overclocking is not a really good idea since poeople will ether freak out over temps or kill the cpus. but overdrive is the best software ocing tool ive ever seen

what they need is turbo mode so they can cheat in clock to clock comparisons like intel so a 2.66ghz that runs at 2.9 or 3.1 isnt beating the 2.8ghz parts or atleast not by the margins as of now

Thats what I was getting at. A totally customizable hardware turboboost. Not the software overdrive solution.

    I was just reading this

    http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets...oc.aspx?i=3724

Now while i agree that i3 530 is a good choice for several things, i3 540 is not worth it IMO

    i3 540 cost $145 and x4 925 cost $141

Now the HTPC thing i am sure that a x4 620 can knock the i3 530 quite badly with raw playback. Try a high enough bit rate encoded H264 and even a X4 will show all core being used. Generally the Athlon X4's are very very good HTPC cpu's and at $99 the 620 and $113 for the x4 630 are very hard to beat.

I would like a test where they use sources encoded in super high bit rate and without hardware acc. x4 620 + 785g and i3 530 + h55

Are any of these would OC close to a 920 anyways? In case it will be really good news.
Or just sticking to their current naming scheme?
