Post AMD readies three new Phenoms: 820, 975BE and 910e

    Source: http://www.fudzilla.com/
Back in September we reported that AMD was planning to launch a new Phenom II, the 975 Black Edition. The new CPU is almost here, as some regional distributors are already listing it.

Unfortunately we still don't know the price, but we have its spec and it's impressive. Clocked at 3.6GHz, the 975 is AMD's fastest Phenom to date and it will ship with an unlocked multiplier. It has 4 x 512kB of L2 cache and 6MB of shared L3 cache. The only downside is its thermonuclear TDP, rated at 140W.

However, consumers looking for something greener and cooler can look forward to the Phenom II X4 910e. It's clocked at 2.6GHz, has 2MB of L2 and 6MB of L3 cache, but it's TDP is a rather modest 65W.

Halfway in between AMD will launch the Phenom II X4 820. It's clocked at 2.8GHz, has a 95W TDP, 2MB of L2 and 4MB of L3 cache. It is probably the most sensible of the three, but 3.6GHz just sounds better.

The new CPUs should launch pretty soon, but we're still far from sure about the launch date or pricing. Expect prices to be similar the CPUs they are replacing, the 965, 905e and 810.
Hope 975 clocks better than 955 since 965 didn't make much of a jump!

heh! In other words this pure speculation!
Adobe is working on Flash Player support for 64-bit platforms as part of our ongoing commitment to the cross-platform compatibility of Flash Player. We expect to provide native support for 64-bit platforms in an upcoming release of Flash Player following the release of Flash Player 10.1.

The 975 sounds nice, but its a shame that it once again has the 140W TDP, but I rather see AMD focus on creating a CPU that does not require such high power usage, but hey, if it works everybody wins.

Apart from the 975 the others and few new Propus cpus will launch on the 25th in Japan.

    ・Athlon II X4 635(2.9GHz,L2 512KBx4,TDP95W) 12,500Y
    ・Athlon II X3 440(3.0GHz,L2 512KBx3,TDP95W) 9,000Y
    ・Athlon II X2 255(3.1GHz,L2 1MBx2,TDP65W) 8,000Y

Hmm 975 or not until Thuban ? Or just a 555 and see benefits of C3 ? Choices choices.

I wonder why AMD made the move to go to 975 with Thuban coming. I hope this doesn't mean it'll be pushed back.

Its too bad they aren't keeping the 965 so the 955 will drop in price. I guess we can't have everything.
    You must [not] advance.

Thuban is not just Istanbul for desktop. It has some differences ,and IMO it will be quite a good desktop hexcore CPU .

If it has the performance I dont see the problem with the top bin having
140W TDP, Its not like you would really notice a massive diffrence on the electric bill unless you were running a data center full of them.

if you had a data center, i think a few 2.6ghz at 65W 905e's would be better suited. but if you can only have one chip 3.6ghz sounds nice

especially for people who do not have the knowledge to do some OC, 3.6 ghz quad will be really good for anything, from gaming and working :P

Well some people were wondering why(if it is based on Istanbul) there are no benchmarks and the launch is pretty close.

    why 140W?

    I have never seen a X4 965 that needs a voltage bump to get at 3.6GHz, I doubt a X4 965 C3 @ 3.6GHz @ stock volts have higher TDP than 125W.

it has to be rated higher than it needs to compensate for droop from bad boards like the ones made by asus for HP (or pegatron now).

i dont get whats so bad about 140W its only 15W more and its not like it will spend much if any time at full wattage for the bulk of users that will get it and not beable to lower the voltage and or wont oc it. the higher voltage is nice for the end user anyways since it will let them oc in overdrive even when they cant change the voltage
