Yes. I run Vista Ultimate 64Bit. Stripe city when I game.
Are both your Win7 and Vista 64bit versions?

Nice to hear Would be interesting to see if the problem return if you use the onboard and/or run with no AHCI again...

After installing a second 5770 I had some issues accessing the sound device menu in w7 (where you select the default device etc). This is only happening with two 5770 installed while using AMD's own HDMI sound drivers. Using windows drivers works like a charm, and the device menu opens quickly. When I think about it I guess ULPS could be the source for this. (system cant find the second card while ULPS is active, thus scanning for it longer). Luckily I've yet to experience anything more severe than this (w7 32bit ult, Cat 9.12+hotfix, and 9.12 sb drivers)

I also happen to run a pcie sound card (sb x-fi titanium) with the onboard disabled, and are also running AHCI for all my drives..

I tried running with my x-fi disabled this morning and it made no difference whatsoever.
Funny...I played Oblivion for a little while and got the stripes but it recovered quickly and the game continued to play.
Borderlands plays consistently with no stripes whatsoever.
    Left4Dead stripes almost immediately.
All games were at 1920x1200 with everything maxed including AA.
This little test points to a software issue.

at this point based on everything i've read and experimented with, it seems to be a driver problem based on the system hardware.

    1. Higher system OC tends to exasperate the problem
    2. higher GPU OC tends to exasperate, especially higher RAM clocks
    2. highly intense graphics tend to exasperate the problem
    3. 64bit OS seem to exasperate the problem
    4. certain cards seem to bug more than other
    5. setting a high OC 2d profile seems to help the problem (this helped me)

I would guess that the driver isn't allowing or supplying the appropriate amount of voltage, and the OC and higher graphical needs cause the system to crash/ lock up.

This is why tf2 isn't crashing, but l4d is.

Has anyone thought that maybe the issue isn't with these new cards, but that it's a problem with recent windows 7 updates? I have an OLD SYSTEM while im building my new one. I'm running an old 8400gs in this thing and let me tell you.........exact same problems. Red lines in videos, videos causing explorer to freeze and crash, ect...... I don't think it's the cards at all, I think good ol Bill Gates has done again what he does best.......F*** UP!!!

    Anyone else agree with me?

    oh man, that's strange Oo

    I have a HD5850 and I don't have any problems

No problems with PowerPlay, using default stock clocks
    I'm using now 3D @ 775MHz/4.5Ghz (stock volts)
I already did some testing at 1GHz/5GHz in Crysis bench and 3dmark vantage..no errors
No errors with Stalker Cop bench, heaven bench, playiing Dirt2, Stalker SoC, Source engine games, Batman AA and NFS Shift.. (I've alread played this games @ 900MHz (@1.2v)/4.8GHz too)

There is simply nothing wrong here

the CPU and memory OC are in the sing.
    memory voltage is 1.9v
    CPU vcore 1.52v
    Catalyst 9.12 Hotfix
    Windows 7 Ultimate x64

since I'm not having any problems, if you guys want any configuration that I using please ask, let's try to find what the hell is going on

    edit:
I have this card for a bit less than 2 months, maybe the problem is with newer cards??

well, if this is the problem, there's a test
someone that have the problem, install a older version of Windows7 (RTM maybe? I have a DVD with Win7 RTM here, but I'm not having probems), don't update it, and see if the problems happens, if the problem don't happen update the SO, if after updating the SO the problem happens again, so, yeah, this is bill gates f***ing up.

    someone want to try this?

9.12 and 9.12HF drivers have major issues.

    1) Restore Factory Defaults in CCC.
    2) Enable ATI overdrive and procede to create a profile, but don't apply it. Edit the clock/memory/voltage values in the corresponding xml file of the lowest 2d mode (one set at 157/300) and make it the same as the second level values. I won't go into exact details but there are links all over the web on how to do it.
    3) Apply the new profile. 2d should now be stable.

If you are overclocking. You'll need to do a restore factory defaults in CCC on each and every reboot and then apply the above profile before firing up your favorite overclocking tool. If you get a bad overclock, you'll have to do the same or you'll continue to have issues on reboot.

Hopefully ATI will fix the drivers in 10.1, but if we all know them like they do they'll most likely cause just as many new problems as they fix.

No, that's not it, the prob is not with windows 7. I have the stripes prob with two different ATI cards in Windows7 only. Do nothing but switch to Nvidia cards (tried four different cards incl a 8400GS) and never a stripe, lockup, or crash. There's something wrong with your computer if you're seeing these problems with your 8400GS, I'd suggest reinstalling the OS.
BTW, I'm running win7 home premium with no updates.

Maybe.. That is not your normal vertical stripe problem. Try clocking the mem and core down a little and see what happens.

Its more than stripes with these cards. I just grabbed a new 5770 installed with fresh OS Vista 32 and Win7 and 64bits.. All do the same thing ..

squares on open windows with the stripes and then what every color the backgound is when Recovery blanks the screen .. then wham it says it recovered and everythings normal for 30seconds. lol

Worst problems ive seen since ATidmag ..Ive owned every series and rode through all the Powerplay craps.

Funny if you dont install DRIVER there is no apparent problem under OS untill a few days later.Just takes longer to happen. The card never goes above 40c.. Probally Pplay again.

Its just plain stuPid.. Had my card for 8hrs now and ready to thow it back to the Sharks.

I just wanted to test a 5series before dumping $650 on a DUal GPU card!!!!!!.. My 3870x2 outperforms this 5770 ATM with less shaders.

If you don't install a driver the card doesn't run high clocks.

Correct,, cards are failing at Desktop and 2d mode!

Eventually if it fails with no driver installed it will be hardware on the card. ATI got a bad somthing installed on thier cards.

Just like when the Nv 9800's GTS HAD Bad ram..Nv was full of crap. It took five cards untill i recieved one with Newer Version of Chips ,which didnt fail.

Same thing different part.. My 3800 ,4800 series will play all day in Vista win7 with 4gig OC... 9.10/9.11/9.12 drivers with out problems.

This 5770 thing wont even work at stock settings on three different Machines with three differnet OS's ALL AMD Dragon..

I hate to say "Its most likely how the Fn card is made"...ATM we probally wont see a fix untill a new batch of cards rolls out which would be the worst case..

Same problems here. 2x 5770 crossfire.

Once i OC the cards and raise voltage with AfterBurner, i'm scr3wed if i get a lock up in 3D. (core clocked too high)

The driver won't recover even though the system is not completely hanging, i still get hdd acces now and then.

I have to manually reset the system and after i've had the desktop for some 5 seconds it goes black and comes back in a striped or even black screen mode.

If i'm lucky the driver recovers and comes back ok, in not so lucky situations i get a complete reboot or a completely corrupted desktop.

I get that every reboot so can't use the system!

New OS install and it's ok but after some OC it's the same crap over again!

Uninstalled driver in safe mode, windows runs fine, no problem.

    Reinstalled 9.12 w/ hotfix...same crap.

Uninstalled driver in safe mode again...removed driver remains with driversweeper...reboot, reinstalled 9.12+ hotfix.. all fine but CCC doesn't work anymore! No way to reinstall CCC -- thanks driversweeper.

Now that i think of it, the desktop always loads fine untill it starts up CCC, then the desktop went black and ususally came back fine.

    Does CCC activate ULPS?

And why can't i find ULPS in my register? Is it cause i'm using XP?

As long as i don't oc my 2 5770's it's all fine though.

I have tried not installing CCC and i still get the issue, i can get it on the desktop with an "unstable" CPU/ mem overclock by running linx or prime 95, it deff seems like it is a driver issue that is for sure, exactly what no one really knows yet, BUT, it dose seem it isn't just on 64 bit OS's or JUST win 7 for that matter, so it would kinda indicate something is off that is common amongst ALL the driver versions, so to me one would think that ATI would b RUSHING to get a fix out for this....then again they have no competition atm so there cards r selling, so they might not even care till Nvid announces there new Dx11 cards (and that would just suck and IMO b poor business practice) also i can throw an old x1950pro in the same slot as my 5770 and have no problems with locking or lines so it IS specific to the 5xxx series of cards

Also on a side note this 5770 would also line/lock-up in my 939 rig on an old DFI NF4 mobo and windows XP (it almost seemed worse on that then on my AM3 rig)

So im curious what do the card manufacture's say when you say that you HAVE tried the card on different machines and os's with the same EXACT problem? do they offer to RMA your card or what happens there?

Well, I'm about to find out. I tried mine in a mates PC, still stripe city after 10-15 mins of gaming. So I have contacted Gigabyte and I'll see what they say. Either way, I'm so p****d off that ATi would allow this piece of c**p out the factory door, and then remain silent when clearly there is a major issue here, that I doubt I'll buy another one. I think I'll ask the retailer for a GTX260 in it's place, and upgrade when GT300 arrives.

There's something wrong with your computer if you're seeing these problems with your 8400GS, I'd suggest reinstalling the OS.
BTW, I'm running win7 home premium with no updates.
I have tried using 2 different nvidia cards, not once have I had stripes using them in W7 64bit. I believe 100% it is the cards causing the issue. with either of my 5870's I get the stripes. I thought at first it was the 1156 platform, the first time I had seen this happen was on my p55 board. Now using an X58 I still get the stripes. Its a shame but I am now back to using my nvidia card, and have no plans of switching back to the 5870 any time soon. I hope a driver will fix this but after countless times having this happen, I am over it. Maybe Green isnt so bad after all.

No, the problem is not 64 bit OS related, i'm running XP 32bit and get the same thing.

Now i uninstalled CCC plus driver via controlpanel>software and reinstalled driver 9.11 and CCC and everything is fine again.

With driver 9.11 scrolling is smooth again, with driver 9.12+ hotfix scrolling up and down this forum for example stuttered like mad.

I only seem to get the lock up/stripes when i start overclocking the cards and raise voltage with AfterBurner. This locking up happens immidiately after i booted into windows and have seen the desktop for a few seconds.

As soon as CCC starts it goes black and comes back with the stripe screen.

The problem occure when i have oc-ed the GPU's too high and i get a lock up.

The screen freezes but the driver does not recover so i have to switch off the system by hand.

Whe i turn it on again there is a great chance of the driver acting up on me.

I need a prog to test my card clocks before running any benches to avoid those lock ups!!

Having the same issues with my 2 5850's. I have also developed something that I didnt have with my 4870's, and that
is cold boot hangs. Never happened until I installed the new cards. If I turn my pc off and turn back on, all the fans spin at 100%.

Sometimes it will boot after 10 or so seconds, other times it requires a cmos reset.
